oil filter tool?

Yesterday I did an oil & filter change on my car. When it came to taking off and putting the new filter on I found it a pain, yes I took the fuel rail guard off first.

My question is what tool do people use to do it? I used a chain strap it was a pain when tightening the filter up with all the bits around it.

Is there an easier way or a better tool?

Renault do a special tool, but the filter should only be done up hand tight, not girly hand tight like! Make sure it's tight!!

Few years ago the garage i worked for was a unipart specialist, had a load of filter's randomly coming undone.........Faulty apparently, somethung to do with the seals!

Ok thanks I will take note for next time round, I did it hand tight and then just got a little extra on it, not too mad though. How much are these special Renault tools?

Tried a band type filter remover or the three pronged ones? I've been lucky though and could undo mine by hand

as DrRollo said hand tight.

Did an oil change on mine last week took the old 1 off with a firm twist came off ok, (Surprised!!!!!!). wacked the new 1 on hand tight. (put a little oil on the rubber seal before fittin).

Job done, Not leakin!!!!

Ok if you remember message me, worth a look.

Yeah my filter was on really tight my chain strap had a good chew at the old one. Yeah i remembered to put some oil on the seal its all good just seeing if there's a better tool that's all.

i just used the correct sized socket when i did mine couple of weeks back.

I hand tighten mine with a bit of oil round the seal. Which I did 6k ago.. I changed the oil last week and could not get the f**ker off.... rubber gloves and both hands, nothing. I had so much grip he engine was twisting on the mounts but still wouldn't come off! God knows why!

In the end I use one of these:

Destroys the old filter but gets the f**kers off no matter what. If the motorfactors had the right one in stock I would have bought the big socket type though.

that cup type tool is awesome for 1.5 DCI's, I use snap on filter pliers with a slightly cranked head most of the time, but i have an old chain strap in a drawer for ocasional odd jobs
