oil temp!!

just trying to get an idea of what sort of temp your clio`s run, mine is an rsi 96 and is running quite high looking at the gauge it looks about 130oc which i think is quite hot and it is also causing my water temp to be high. Running it on s**t oil at the min mind and the filter could do with a change. Let me know what you think and let me know your oil temps thanks Gra

130 is stupidly high your oil is basically cooking and breaking down I'd get it chnaged for some decient stuff ASAP.
My WIlliams (not quite the same as it an oil cooler etc) runs 90 on the motorway quick crusie and 120~125 on the track. thats why 've gone for thicker oil.

whats should i go for 5w 40 fully synthetic? i`ve heard millers and silkolene are good but best i can get from halfords is magnetec.

5/40 is the try most people use.
Silkline pro is the popular stuff on the forum.
Oilman on here can get you a good deal on oil.

erm... thought the guage measured coolant temperature and not oil temperature? if its stupidly high, i'd be looking at the cooling system first!

silkolene gets my vote, without a doubt the best oil i've ever used.

there is a gauge for coolant next to the fuel gauge and there is a oil temp gauge next to the oil pressure gauge and oil level gauge.

  172 Cup
I want to install a oil temp and oil pressure gauge in the Cup. It will sit in the little drink holder next to the cigarette lighter. Already sourced the gauges and housing. Just have to pluck the courage to start drilling, tapping and screwing into the sump. But just curious where is the best place to recieve the engine oil temp or pressure on the actual block?

I use 5W40 Helix atm in the RSi, not noticed any difference between that and Silkoline Pro, both similar prices too.

Only thing is for the first few heat cycles the Silkoline seesm to stay cooler, but then after a weke or so it takes on the same sorta temp as the Helix, possibly being designed as a roace oil and hance being changed after every race might have somethign to do with it.

Using Helix atm simply cus its easier to get hold of

f**k doing that lol!!!

Get a sandwich plate that goers between teh filter and block with temp and pressure sender holes in it, about a tenner off ebay, got one here, good quality, just need the funds for the gauges
