Oil warning light problem

  R26

Over the last few days, when i get into my car after dinner and turn it on, the SERV light comes on and the computer flashes OIL ----------. However, I let the car cool for abit - not totally cold, and checked the dipstick - it looks as if it ok half way between the two marks.

When I get back into the car in the morning - the oil warning doesnt come on. I have had the car since September 04 and done 9000 miles without needing any more oil topped up. Any suggestions please!

It could be something to do with your wiring maybe. Ive found the problem with my last two clios. Under the passenger seat theres a connector block-as the seat slides back&forth it seems to pull on the wiring. Try just touching the wires near the connector block next time they come on.

Or try putting some oil in it! you will need some by now for sure... when you start it in the morning and it says oil ok have you ever pressed the stork in? I bet it would say o------- n when it gets hot -------- mine has 8.5 k on the clock n have topped it up twice!

what do you mean - when you press the stork in! I trust you mean the little button on the end of the arm ? when I press that in a nd hold it it just starts to cycle through the different info stats. How exactly do I do it for an oil check ?

Also , I bought some Shell Ultimate 5W 40 fully synthetic 1Litre Oil, will this stuff be ok as it was the only stuffI could get at 11pm last night and how much should I put in ?

1. The Only way to check your oil is by using the dipstick.. If the display is reading ------- then either the oil is below minimum, or the Oil level sensor that is bolted into the block has failed..

You should really be checking your oil every few weeks anyway.. And note that Renault state that acceptable oil consumption is 1 litre for every 1000Km or 625 miles..

(the connectors under the seats are ONLY for the Pretensioners and airbags.. and yes this is also a common problem, but unrelated to the Oil issue)

2. The Correct oil for the Renault Sport cars is 5W40 Fully Synthetic.. This has been discussed loads of times...

thanks - used fully synthetic 5w 40 and checked the sensor thing it said 0------ now it says 0000-- , although the dipstick still maintains that the oil is a the same level - half way between the marks - its really odd that the dipstick has not shown any difference ?

Thanks guys for all the help
