Oily smell when accelerating hard...

  Clio 197
Hiya,

I've got a car which (from new) produces an oily smell when accelerating hard...

...it comes from the exhaust, and like I said - only under hard acceleration.

Do all engines do this (only we're unaware of it because the tailgate is sealed properly) or is it a sign that something isn't quite right?

I changed from 10w40 semi-synth to 5w40 fully-synth within 5 miles of having the car, and now it's done 25k.

Ta,

Oms.

do you have a standard induction elbow (from filterhousing to throttle body) with the crank-case oil tube mounted on it ?

I have a aftermarket elbow , disconnected the tube and put a filter on the end so it vents to atmosphere; quite smelly on full throttle sometimes ; oil probably drips on exhaustmanifold

Check if your crank-case tube is still connected (at the induction elbow if you're still OEM) and at the block/engine , may have come loose somehow there ? Do you have to fill her up regularly ?

Ah, err... I no longer have a 182. It's a C2 VTS.

I run everything standard.... and a bit of oil is used, but not too much. Probably 1L every 8k or so.

Sometimes other vehicles that accelerate past me hard produce the same smell, however they're much older vehicles.

TBH it's going back to the lease company in 10 months so I don't care... but if something can be sorted under warranty, I'd be happier knowing that it was done (rather than some poor sod buys buying a minger at auction).

.. when you say "tailgate" , you're not talking about a turbo car with a waistgate are'nt you ?

** EDIT ** just read your reply ..

My Saxo used to also smell on full throttle, no worries
