OMFG Finally Upgraded

As some may remember, I chose to upgrade my 2Mb Pipex to their "upto" 8Mb Pipex last year, after many delays it finally took place in January, however despite my modem syncing at 8Mb, I could still only download at 2Mb.

After many phone calls and letters that never got replied to, I gave up and settled with that I had.

I have just now started downloading a Linux ISO and it's downloading at 800+kB/s!

Yesterday I was still downloading at speeds in the 200's.

I can't f**king believe they've finally sorted it!!

Incidentally, is 800kB/s ok for 8mb? I can't remember how you work it out :o

i always think, what ever connection you have i.e i have 5mb i think so there for download should be 500 kb/s

1/10 of the main speed
 
yep, 800kbps is a decent downspeed for 8 meg service matey, my orange is around that, average of 760kbps :)
 
Download Speed: 6797 kbps (849.6 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 377 kbps (47.1 KB/sec )

Not exactly 8Mb but it will do me fine, a lot better than 2Mb.

Glad you got it sorted in the end, they took long enough.

Don't know if ours is slower now or we've got used to the speed but it doesn't seem that quick now.
 
I am with pipex and had the exact same problems as you. Mine have been going on for 9 months now and after man engineer visits and nobody taking ownership of it I have given up. 3 months and then im with Virgin.net

I've sent them a rather sarcastic email and asked them to let me know what the problem was.

Thats about right when you take TCP overheads into account.
 
PIPEX is rubbish, i had nothing but trouble with speeds and dropped connections when i was with them.

I stopped paying them in the end, they were not providing the speeds i was quoted.

Im with VIRGIN cable atm and have a 20meg line at home,

results from that ^^ bbmax test were 19,672 kbps downspeed, 728 kbps up
nice eh.
 
Oh yeah Griff. Your balls almost had it. I was without Internet for 36 hours a few weeks ago, and I've had my speed reduced now :(

What speeds were you quoted, Russ?

Apart from the botched upgrade and not replying to my complaints I've not had a problem.

Unfortunately we don't live in a cable area :(
