On the verge of bigger injectors

Asked a couple of people regarding this over a few month period and there seems to be a 50 / 50 split so thought id post it on here lol

Own a Ph1 172 which was rolling roaded at roughly 200 bhp fly figure. The person who RR'd it noted that it was running lean top end of the rev range and that there was more in it with another 6 bhp+ or so to come from it with a bit more mapping

This would see me close to the OE injector limit of 208 and maybe over depending on how well the mapping would go

Also the car has done over 100k on the same injectors.

Taking into account i 'could' be running close to or over the injector limiter after mapping and the age of the standard injectors, would it be wise or recommended to upgrade to a bigger size?

208 hp stock injectors at 100% duty cycle supposed to be then again a bit blocked etc I woulnd't risk it that running stock pressure up the pressure to say 4 bar and yu've got about 240hp but thats risky I'd try to keep injectors around 80% duty max so I'd upgrade.

I'd also check the pump is ok stock limit is 240hp frommemory so with age could be a bit work at least upgrade pumps can be fitted easy enough.

Cams, headwork, inlets, maxogen, decat, zorst , 182 main etc

I dont want to throw in injectors if there not necessary but i could be running pretty close to the limit especially if i try and extract the extra horses with it aledgedly running lean top end

always had a problem with this car leaning off from various RR's iv been to

i would suggest a second hand set of OE injectors, get em cleaned first, whack them in

who map's it?

haha nah these are fine. Dont get any tapping from them at all. Rate them pretty high in terms of value for money but i know they are classed as budget especially these days. When i first had them fitted think there wa only Schrek (sp) cams on the market

Got a second set of injectors here ;)

If all goes well and i manage to extract this '6 bhp' isnt that pretty close to their limits?

who's doing the mapping then?

i would suggest going to see paul up at RS tuning, mappers are hit and miss and sometimes a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing!

i remember being told once that an engine i'd built was "running a bit lean" with the AFR sitting at around 12:1 :rolleyes: and this guy is well known!

Long story

Had a SMT6 and it ermmm blew up so had another one fitted.

Local mapper tried to map it and didnt know what he was doing and the car ended up running like a total crock of poo

Took it down to Paul for a full day who managed to get it running this side of a normal car again lol

Got it rolling roaded months after by GMC Motorsport (saxo people) and he said it was running slightly lean top end of the rev range, there's at least 6 more bhp in it blah blah blah

thing is, with me living miles from anything i cant really afford to experiment trying this and seeing if that works etc

If there's any doubts id rather just upgrade rather than acid dip the OE ones, get the map tweeked and then if their not right, upgrade then map again kinda thing but obviously i dont want to upgrade just for the sake of it :)

They only have certain base maps though do they not? To get mine set up right id a thought a live map would be the best, no?

Got to admit ive read about that kit and not been too impressed. Prefer to leave the mapping to the experts who know what their doing lol

Whats your opinions with the injector thing Fred? Pushing close-ish to the limits, worth changing? or keep stock ?
