One for the ECU boffins

Car has just had 12000 mile service and everything is fine.

I asked him to check the ECU because the idle was a little lumpy and it was hunting slightly, didnt expect him to actually do anything.

When I drove the car the idle had been improved, but there is less throttle response.

I think they said they altered the Injector timing or something, I cant remember, but Im gonna go back and get him to change it again.

Any ideas exactly what he has done so I can make more sense when I go to see them. I am going to ask to watch while programming this time.

I think its your over-active imagination.

Your standard Renault mechanic will NOT be an ECU expert, and the majority (BenR excluded) will not know their ignition map from their cold-start enrichment.

The chances are nothing has been changed - the 172 is very sensitive to air temperature you know - could be that!

Its not my imagination!! they told me they had changed something, I just cant remember what he said.

And you can notice the difference. Im not saying its slower just more delayed when you initially accelerate.

Sod it, I will just go and get them to change it back, thought someone might have known a little more on the subject.

Probably just done an ECU reset or flashed the software, but they cannot change anything themselves...

I will go back and find out then let you all know what was done.

It could have been bull, but something is very different and it isnt my imagination

Renault dealers can only download the latest pre-mapped software. Also once thats downloaded you cant reverse it back to the original software either. Also when the ecu is reprogrammed the learnt parameters reset back to factory settings so it may take a while to adapt back to your driving style.

Wasnt there an option that the dealers can change though? I remember someone posted it here who had some ECU reading software - something to do with injection?

The dealer cant adjust the ecu mapping. They can only reset the ecu, down load the latest software version and slightly adjust the idle speed.

OK, this is what was done: They updated the software and altered the idle slightly. There have been 23 updates since my car was build for changes to the cold start and such like.

Dont know what was in there before but the new software requires a lot more throttle movement than before. I will drive it for a week or so and see how it feels then. I imagine I will get use to it.

The guy at Renault said to come back if I still wasent happy. They will probably have a new software map out by then ;)

Thanks for your input on this guys
