ONE THOUSAND FOR A KEY !!

Got a mk1 172. I have one key which one of the chip things broke off so i soldered it back on. [ not 100% reliable ]

Anyway i was using the spare key cos that one was ok till last week when the car wouldnt start !!

Turns out that the key needs sending away to France for re-programing but my Reno dealer have said theres a very good chance that this wont work which they said in that case its gonna need a new ECU and 2 new keys !!!

Total cost is gonna be near a grand !!!!!!!!!!!

They said that this is a common problem with these remote keys !!

do you think im getting ripped off and is there a cheaper way of doing it rather than replacing the whole ECU ????? Thank god i never got it re-mapped !!

well surly if they aknowledge its a common problem , they should have sorted it before selling it or take responsibilty and get it sorted for you free of charge

I got charged £140 from VW for my golf but they just reprogrammed the key to the car.

Sounds a bit steep! lol

Ive never heard of them doing that. What if the keys lost, what then? Think they are chatting sh*t and Jay or Mike will put you straight. Think its about £150 for a key and reprogramming. Just phone a different dealer and ask what it costs to replace a lost key.

Like i said they reckon the keys knackered and needs sending to France to be done. Its if they cant do it then im stuffed !!! Dont fancy paying out that kinda money on a b***** key !!!!!......there taking the mick

Yep. The garage had lost the spare to my 172 when I picked it up. Cost £50 for a new key to be reprogrammed. They paid.

Thats a more realistic price, I would be prepared to pay up to £150 but £1000 thats just taking the piss.

thats rubbish mate... i reprogram and replace about 2/3 keys per WEEK about £100 inc new key...

thats crap, i worked at reno for about 2 weeks in the parts department and its around £180 if i remember rightly for it. they dont reprogram the ECU to the key they do the key to the car. simple task really. they are having you on obviously not making much money so wanna scam some peeps.

BTW the part number for a new key is 7701046796 £73.16 - i can get you one really cheap. It is coded and will take 3 - 4 days to come from france. Let me know pal.

I had to have the ECU reprogrammed on my last Clio due to a Renault fault and they then had to reprogramme my key to the car at the dealers although I had to go back a few days later to get the spare reprogrammed too as they said only certain people were allowed to do it. Done under warranty though. Id take it further if I had a quote of £1k!!!

your being told sh#t about the £1000 repair a key of about £80 plus a litle to reprogramme will do it
