Open Induction Kit (Mk1 Ph3 1.2)

  Valver Lookalike Mk1 Ph3
No, I'm not gonna ask how much gain I'm going to get from one.

Actually I want to know how much loss in power I will get from having 1?

I ask because I'm considering getting 1 because I've heard they make a very nice noise - any1 confirm this? Will it make a better noise even with the standard exhaust?

FOR SALE: '97 Clio 1.4 RT
I have a K&N 57i kit on my phase 3 1.4 RT, it knocked 3 seconds off my 30mph-80mph time (conducted on private roads...obviously! :O ) im not gonna name the actual before and after times, because they're too embarassing.... damn 4th gear sucks in the clio :p

Tests were conducted with same fuel load, air temp (within 2 degrees) same time of day, passenger weight (plus the weight of one KFC eaten before fitting, waiting for engine to cool down... )

But yesh, I notice the difference overtaking on motorways, motorway slip-roads, and in low-rpm 3,4,5th gear.

best £55 ever.

P.S: Performance really isnt much, but the sound...be-jesus.... if u only put ur foot down half way, its nice and subtle... nobody will think u sound like an arse hole while trying to park ur car, but put ur foot down all the way, open up the throttle.. and va va voom.

Well this was the point in me asking, because a 1.2 gives fk all power anyway I don't want to lose any!

I don't do track days, so times aren't important to me.

Also, I can't see the engine bay in a 1.2 getting hot enough for me to make a custom cold air feed.

Well after reading the feed back, seems to me like I need to get 1!

personally i'd stick with a replacement element, but then, i don't like to get noticed when i'm driving, i'd rather pootle along without sounding like a southend kev revving the tits off the car

gain - zero
loss - negligable

sound - IMHO awful

Erg, any1 got a sound clip of an induction kit on a standard exhaust?

You're not going to loose any power on the 1.2 as an IK sits way off to the side of the engine so won't suffer heat soak from any components near it. Theres also so much free space round the engine there will be reasonably cool air flowing to maintain the same or give more power than the std airbox.

fitted one to my 1.2, and i don't know if it was just in my head or not, btu i swear it made it nippoier and more responsive at slower speeds

you wont loose power from an induction kit, if you have an exhaust aswell youl get about ten to fifteen bhp out of them combined, i have a piperx vector kit, about 100 quid and loud, nice noise when i put my foot down, if you want to you can do a hell of a lot to a 1.2, if its the mpi version, f7p engine, cos the manifold is plastic, which has baffles in it, which you can remove, and if you p and p the outlet manifold, you can get even more power. ive nearly got 70bhp out of a 1.2, the 1.4 is that standard.

also pls dont get a bloody k and n, they sound nice but tests have show that on that engine they do nothing, piperx are beter, so are green cotton.

  Punto/Clio GTT
got a piperx on my ph 3 1.4, didnt notice any power loss nor any gains. sounds loads loads better though. put a cold air feed upto it.

you wont see any gains as such cos they are only a few bhp, if you have an exhaust you will notice the throttle response is quicker

Had it been a 1.4 or phase 1/2 1.2 i'd have said avoid as it defo looses power. However on your engine things are different.

You won't get any loss on your engine as theres loads of space round the engine for hot air to escape too...the IK also sits off to the side of the engine not directly above the exhaust manifold like the standard airbox does.

Gains...maybe a little and does sounds way better.
