Opening TCP ports

How can i open a specific port (9100) to allow communications through it?

If i used netstat -a, i can see that the required port is not active. I've tried going through windows firewall exceptions without success.

Depends on your connection. If your using an internet router you will have to do it on there.

Its nothing to do with the router. The port was open, I install a microsoft patch, and now the port is blocked.

  Better than yours. C*nt.
And the post reply button is stuck!

Urm. Does the Firewall configuration not let you open it?

The windows firewall is disabled as default on our desktop. I've put an exception in (not sure whether it looks at these if the firewall is disabled?) but its still not showing as open.

seems odd if the firewall is turned off and the port is open on the router. Uninstall the patch see if it makes a diff?

works ok if the patch is uninstalled, however its a corporate requirement to have it installed. DOH
