Opera Turbo - Proxy proof (for now)

  SLK 350
Just been messing around this Opera Turbo, just so happens it bypasses both our Websense and Messagelabs proxy, farking awesome ;)

Caches eveything on request and delivers it via opera.labs with some compression. The surprising thing is it also seems to deliver video via the same caching system.

Pretty useful for those subjected to proxy systems, oh and the other thing, I've looked at the packets through Wireshark and it completely masks the content delivered with session ID's. Finally, it also works with SSL.

This sounds really interesting. If I'm reading it all correctly, images will not look as good, but as an option to switch on/off, it sounds superb. One use I can think of straight away, even in my home, is when I am maxing out my downstream connection and still need to browse as well.

feck, that means that i'll have to a search for this tomorrow when i get in. Can't people just be happy to work and not f**k around to get around security systems? I had a report of a guy who spent over 2 hours one day searching for proxies and ways around webfilters. The lazy turd should have just done his work as he was supposed to.

Well as an IT bod, its more a 'tool' for us. Don't see why it resembles an issue unless your users have permissions to install software, which I'm sure they don't.

Plus it's easy enough to manually block.

Thats a pretty good bit of kit, as Hoff says surely all your users are locked down against installing software anyway?

Everything is fairly tight but our policy has a few holes in it which are required for some of our software to run. Some people here are exceptionally good at finding them!

Last time it was Maxthon portable running as a .com application, which was not blocked in the policy.

So are they running locally as power users? or (god forbid) local administrators?

Haven't come across any situation where you'd need to grant install permissions to any users on an unlimited basis.

I used to have something like this on my Palm IIIc

Hooked it up to my option GSM modem for some 9600 action with my awesome lime green nokia 5110.

Made greyscale web browsing almost useable.

Not install permissions, but to be able to place a portable version of an app within the C drive of a PC and run it from there.
