opinions on a dci clio...

hello all,

Just wondered if anyone here has a dci clio (100bhp) and their views on it?....is it nippy as one renault dealer keeps claiming it is amazingly quick for what it is, produces more torque then a 182?!........what kind of engine mods could be made to it?.....any help/opinions be greatly appreciated!!!!

get one!! i test drove one but it was brand new and tight!! even the dci 80s have a serious shove! imagine a 100 with a chip etc..........nice power boost and enough torque to put a smile on anyones face :)

The torque is the same iirc, but MUCH lower down. Peak torque on the 182s is at 5000 ish rpm and its at about 2000 rpm on th Dci. It will be a nippy little motor once up and running!! torque is 200Nm btw...

Being a diesel, a simple re-map will probably see you a nice increase in torque and bhp for very little cash.... plus youll still get the economy!! makes sense!!

What am I saying!! Its a diesel!! Noooooo!!!

:D yes am contemplating it....basically just gonna trade in my 1.2 for free cos my 3 year deal is running out and basically rather then stump up 4k..they said I can get it no problem......I told them my clio is modified, but they said as long as it has been tastefully done..............;) thanks for your opinion

Sorry I am a bit green when to comes to understanding what best engine mods to do..what would the first thing you guys would do if you got the car?..are K-tec the best?...just that been to their site, they dont really mention the DCi....please help!

Wheres ed when you need him??! Hes into his diesels, and will tell you about the companys that deal with diesel Clios. There is no better mod for a diesel than a chip/re-map imho..... Itll cost you about £500 I reckon, but youll get a massive increase in performance for that....

Super chips do a chip for the Dci 80.... here http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/cliodci80.pdf<click me>

Should be a similar story for the Dci100...

Black Kro will tell u loads about his dci 80 too............................they are they way forward mate............TURBOOOO

so i am right in thinking that a superchip and re-map will roughly give the same perfomance increase as each other? and for the same kind of price?...thanks again and if this ed would reply even better!

Blimy diesel thread how did I miss this.

The dci claims 200NM torque but at 1900 or so and 100hp.

In real life after a few k it will make ~220NM and 110hp.

Remaps will get it to some decient figures the injectors etc are bigger than the 80 and it has a better (higher pressure turbo) so expect 125~130hp and say 260Nm torque but it will depend. Superchip are already able to crack the ECU so give thema call they will probably do you a good deal using your car as the one to make the first maps on and it will be custom made for the car.

Im not a huge superchip fan (manily down to some dealers poor service) but they are a good company Cliosport members get a disount and there warently is excellent. Custom remaps will get more power but no other company (yet) does custom made remaps. You will soon be able to get tunning boxes for them Im not a big for of TB but they are cheap can be removed easily and sold on they dont make power as efficiently or as well as a tunning remap. (superchip charge £550 I think but you should be able to get it for £500 I think with Cliosport members discount).

A 172/182 has 200NM torque.

The 100dci should offer much more low end torque as the turbo will start earlier.

The box is the one from the magan and the same for the cluch so it should be more reliable than the 172 cluch which is a bit weak.

Hey thanks edd for this useful information, got most of what you trying to say!...just out of interest if you dont mind me asking the performance of your DCi...any times you would like to quote?

Yep similar gains the remap will be more efficent and better and should make more power as it properly made (not meaning to be unfair to tunning boxes) but since its designed around the engine it might not as it has safer limits ie runs at lower temps for long life.

Ive got the 65dci which is stock.

It is likely to be making 70hp though anf 185NM torque as it had a few miles and DCIs are under rated for the German tax laws.

I want to get it on a dyno some time but missed the recient NW one as was in Manchester on a business course.

0-60 has been tested (buy diesel car magazine) is 13.7 seconds (offical figures say 15 second)

Max speed is officially 100 which Ive seen on a private drive (posh house) lthough down the hill near the end of the drive its showwed 110 on the spedo. power dies after 3.5k though according to the superchip curve and since 100mph = 4k your realy out the power band.

I want a 6th gear.

And Edd who would the best people to contact about a re-map?...again thanks for all you advice...am seriously considering the offer renault have made.

and sorry ed one final question!....if after having a re-map/superchip, would I need to worry about the standard gearbox failing after having such an increase in performance/torque?!!? Thanks thanks again

Superchip are the only company in the UK I know about who can change the ECU programming and remap the ECU for you. Plus they have a good warently.

The 100dci is very expensive to buy and IMO Id look at a 172/182 personally. But it is good on the fuel and cheaper to run.

Just one other thing I remembered

The 100dci maps they show for details seem to induicate the torque bveing capped atr 200NM now these maps usually dont relate to the real world but if it is true then you may be able to get more toque out of the 100dci as the turbo has been capped due to its old maps.

Why they capped the corque though could b down to a few reason

As not to make it more torque than a 182

The clutch wont stand up to much more.

The turbo wont do it

The internal of the ngine wont stand any more (Ok there uprated but very mechanically similar to the normal 65 and 80dcis)

If when superchip etc do start remapping and they find the limit is just there to let the 182 be just as torque then the torque might be able to go as high as 290NM or ever more if you have a good enging and custom chip work.
