  106 GTi
As said the 306 loves to LOO and is very progressive and fun, standard v standard I can only compare a GTi6 to to a 182 but the Clio feels much more sure footed. With the 306 there always seemed to be to much body movement. The 306 is proably more fun.

I had a 306 XSi 16V which the same suspension never gave me the confidence to be as committed or corner as hard as the 205 GTi I also had at the time, or the 182 that followed. Neither feel that edgy to me. The longer wheel base of the 306 tames it down a bit more when it does go out of shape over the Clio. The Clio seems to have a load more grip at the front end as well when pushing on, and just turns in. The 306 GTi has better weighted steering.

Stick a set of new boots on the 172 and have another go.

never driven a 306 but ive had lift of oversteer every morning on my way to work this week on the greasy roundabouts

  Trophy 265/500
I was driving a colleague to one of the Manchester offices this week and we went over the snake pass. She asked what the difference between understeer and oversteer was, so I showed her some LOO and had her grabbing the Jesus handles :)

Easy to tighten line with a bit of lift...

  182 FF
I've just recently sold my GTI-6, got sick of the 106's whoopin me, but i've gotta say it handled brilliantly, the best of any car i've had, i've only just purchased my clio today, and its bin peeing it down in Lancashire:( so I haven't had the oportunity to give it some. Put my foot down and allI get is spin, I think i'm gonna have some fun with it though:D

I'm surprised at those comments.

I had a 205gti which was very sharp but edgy. Then a 306xsi which felt very planted and reassuring. Then a 182 which felt like it had too much body role after the 306 and had a horrible 'squirm' under hard braking.

So I would say 306 205 then 182 in order of 'best' handling. However my coilovered 182 is far better then the pugs with standard susp.
