Options if you lose your key?

To cut a long story short I left my keys in my mates glove box last night however, I only have one so I had to wait for him to drive back to drop them off for me!

Can you get a replacement key cut or do they need a special chip?

Also I was only supplied with one from the dealer when I bought it, is this normal?

They will need to be programmed for the immobiliser at great expense! £100 to £150, depending what Renault garage you go to.

I had a local keycutters do it for £50... At first they told me they were waiting for a new machine and this took 5 monthsto show up! It obviously has no remote but it's great as a spare.

It's not normal that you were only supplied with one key, no.

A previous owner probably has the spare tucked away in a drawer somewhere and forgot all about it when they moved the car on. Or they lost it.
