Orange broadband?

  Pink & Blue 182, JDM DC2
Trying to save a few quid at the moment and am considering dropping PlusNet as the service has been quite poor lately.

As a Sky TV and Orange contract holder, they both do broadband these days. Anyone using their service? Any good? Reliable?

I was reading the small print on the Orange one as I was considering saving my £25 which I send to Pipex each month but it's a 2Gb limit.

Plus I've read around that the services is shocking and Pipex has never skipped a beat so guess I'll stick to paying it

I think you can get unlimited usage for £5 if you're a customer bud... would save me like £20 a month which although isn't alot, is £250 a year... which would pay for xmas.... might be worth it....

Uww didn't realise that mate; think I'll give them a buzz and find out then.

Defo worth saving £20 a month, cause I'm a tight sod and that's 125 miles of petrol :)

does pipex have a fair use thing?

and is it always on or have you have any probs?

thinking of going over to them, whats the speed like to?

Just looked up this offer.. and there is a fair use policy, (don't download big files between 6pm & 11pm)

& you can pay £5 a month to have it unlimited..
Not bad.. but don't like the sound of the download restrictions much..

As far as I know it doesn't, I haven't had any problems, but I'm not a hardcore l33ch3r lol.

Never had one problem with it, speed seems reasonable, I'm on 2meg which is the fastest for my exchange.

If you go with Orange don't move house midway through your contract.

Friend of mine missed part of the small print and is now paying for a service at his old address!

I was with Wanadoo well before those barstards at Orange bought it, never had a problem to be fair, and they dont seem to be looking at usage, our connection gets shared between 8 business and personal computers and were doing about 70-90Gb a month :)

I am thinking of getting the web n walk data card for my laptop, will 10GB per month be enough if i dont download?

pipex traffic shape very aggressively.

i work for a pipex owned company and we have just started using the same tactics.

1. Yes P2P is throttled
2. Yes NNTP is throttled also
3. minimum contract is 12 months (if you leave before you pay the remaining months)
4. contacting customer service - it seems extremely hard to contact c/s and to get anything out of them whether its sorting billing or obtaining a MAC.

Back in May this year pipex upgraded their systems (for want of a better word), since then billing has got into a bit of a state, monies being taken, monies not being taken, refunds not being given when promised, impossible getting hold of billing, the control panel on mypipex hasn't worked properly since.

The network (as far as I am aware) is rock solid but if you do need to contact c/s you could be in for a bit of a shock. There is no "indian call centre" but it has been extremely difficult to get through at various times of day.

Emails sent to c/s or t/s rarely get answered in a reasonable time frame (I know someone waiting atm for a reply to an email sent in 6th September!!).

If I was you I would read a few of the posts on www.adslguide.org in the pipex section, most of what you asked has been covered and you can see the difficulties some ppl have had with pipex atm. Not saying this will continue for ever but its not happy reading.

the above is copied from adslguide, read this thread........

Interesting stuff Adam.

I do recall being sent an email about not having paid my account, but it turned out there was an error in there account system somewhere and everyone got mailed it, I bet the phones were busy that day!

I was with pipex. took ages to get through to them and still waiting on a refund after they kept charging me line rental after closing. c***s.

service was fine though,

now with orange, pay extra £10 and its unlimited. been fine so far, wireless on the bundled livebox is shite though, went back to my trusty belkin router for wireless.

p2p was fine on both of them. 1mb connection though.

Ahh was going to ask Jonesy... are connection settings provided? I want to carry on using my sonicwall firewall and netgear router.

Not sure what you mean by connection settings Si, too technical for me ;) but my Netgear router works fine with Orange here.

I see, nothing more than my orange username and password where needed to be entered in the router.
