Outside Air Temp Wrong?

  172 Cup, Clio 197
Got my 172 cup the other day and I love it. Except the temp in the middle of the dash is showing 24-27C which is obviously wrong. Is there any way to correct this? Thanks

I get this occasionally. It's because I fold my mirrors in when I park at home, some of the time it's messes it up, some of the time it's fine. Causes havoc with the air con though.

i once got into my car and was told to outside temp was ranging betwen 54 and 62 celcius - wtf considering their was snow outside - fookin french shite. doesnt do it anymore tho but as mike said it might be to do with foldig mirrors cos i do that a lot

I ain't folded the mirrors, I've only had the motor for 3 days. I'll trying folding em and unfolding em, cheers

just tried folding the mirrors, it made no difference. When I switch the ignitionon they say 29C and then drop to 27C and stay there, any more ideas?

  No more clio's for me!

mine went off when it went past 60 degrees

Yep that happened to mine (mk2 51 plate) about 4 months ago! These aren't cheap from the stealers to replace...cost me 67 quid, yes that 67! :(

I've got a cup so the aircon/climate control aint a prob, however the incorrect reading is really cheesing me off, especially as the Mrs' is working perfect in the Golf!

Id expect if the probe was knackered then I wouldn't get any temp?

Hehe, at least you still have one. Some <insert insult of choice here> snapped off my mirror a couple of weeks ago and stole it. I assumed that all the wing mirrors came with the thermal sensor. So didnt bother asking specifically for one with a sensor when I bought the new one. Now im stuck with an unmatched mirror (until I can get it repainted) and still no temp display :(

Anybody have any idea if you can add a sensor to an existing mirror for cheap? Or even to a clio that has never had a sensor? (asking for a mate) Ive seen one on ebay for £13 wich supposedly just fits into the mirror though I have my doubts.

Where did you see the sensor? As long as there is a cut out in the casing and the attachment point is inside the casing, then I can't see why not.

It just something that annoys me, when I buy a car I expect everything to work. I might be sorted anyway, cause the car came with a 6 month gold warrenty so it looks like its covered by that.

Do you mean where did I find the sensor on ebay or where was it on my car before it was stolen?
My new mirror does have the slot at the bottom for the sensor but I cant get the cover off to see if it has the mounts for the sensor, any idea how I do this? does it just pull off or do I take the glass off first? Also do you have any idea where I would wire this in? Maybe someone with thier sensor still intact could post a picture of the inside of thiers?

My friends clio is a 99 1.2 16v sport, to be honest I was quite supprised his didnt allready have the sensor. Now I know we could get a mirror that would be able to house the sensor if his doesnt allready have the slot. But what I was really wondering was would his car have the needed cabling and would his dash display actually support displaying the reading from the sensor?

Well I'm bidding on a sensor on ebay now. If I win it I will be fitting the sensor when it gets here (I've got to wait a couple of weeks for my warrenty to go live before theyll authorise the repair, so if i can do it cheap enough ill do it myself) so when I do ill take pics and post em for u. I just put a small flat blade screwdriver between the black trim and the colour coded casing and GENTLY seperated them, whilst moving the driver around the join

Sweet, thanks for that. I thought it might be something that simple to get the cover off, I just didnt fancy destroying my mirror so soon after getting it replaced so I didnt want to just go poking around myself :)

EDIT: BTW you are bidding on the sensor I was looking at myself so I will be doubly interested in hearing how this works out for you.

I got the sensor today, I forgot to take pics but its really easy. You take the wing mirror casing off and pull DOWN on the old sensor to remove it from the wing mirror. Then snip the two black wires from the sensor. Connect the new sensors wires to the two remaining black wires on the wing mirror and slot the new sensor into the housing on the wing mirror. then replace the casing, it only took me like 5 mins to do it and its working fine now.

Okay thanks, how about my problem though, I dont have a sensor to pull out because my new mirror doesnt have one (It does have the mounts though, I checked). My old mirror did have one so I know the wiring is present within the car itself, I just dont know where to attatch the wires inside the mirror as I dont have the old sensor as a reference.

Have you managed to find the wires for your electric mirror? Theyre in the same loom. Any chance you can take a picture of yours and i may be able to identify them for you.

Ok I went out and removed my cover and took a couple of pics for you. The black wires with the blue crimp connectors on are the wires you should be looking for. However it seems im unable to post attachments so bear with me.

Thanks a lot mate, ive been trying to get the cover for my mirror back off today to take some pics but I cant get the damn thing off. A mate of mine done it yesterday an he made it look easy. I think maybe im being too gentle with it or something.

just start at the outer edge and work your way round, its just clipped together, as long as you're deforming the plastic you'll be ok
