Over 200hp from 172

Calling anyone with over to 200bhp to come forth and share their secrets of what work they have had done. The only conversion I have heard of is from LAD but their reviews dont seem to be the best looking at threads here. Cheers

LOL - ok the L.A.D. conversion has NEVER been independantly proved - end of.

Mine on the other hand ;) has been, as demod infront of quiet a few peeps at the Power Engineering RR day at the tail end of last year :D

Mine took - inlet manifold, injectors, completely new ecu system, throttle bodies, rad fan, decat, exhaust erm and loads of other things to do it - but a proved 212bhp and 170lb/ft :D

Very nice! Have you run it on a 1/4 yet mate?

The decat is on my list but I havent found any place that does it, only the sports cat from Ktec? Can I ask where you found your one? Or is yours a mk1 with only the one sensor on the cat?

Plenty of people have decatted twin lambda sensor 172s. Despite promises of problems with sensors, the only product to have the lights come on was the k-tec sports cat, but I dont think the guy posted how that particular situation panned out.

As far as I am aware, you can disconnect the second sensor and you wont get any warning lights coming on. Im sure someone will be able to confirm this?

I have a decat on my mk2 172, as rhys says was just a case of disconnecting the 2nd senoor. I have had no problems at all been running it like this for about 3 months. as I see it I got no light complaining the sensor was unplugged and as theres no sensor its not there to report any problems so no circumstances should arise that result in lights on the dash

Yup, Ive used the K-tec decat pipe, now this is actually designed for the mk1, but it fits a mk2 without any problem IF and ONLY IF youre exhaust has a telescopic centre section (like the k-tec exhausts have).

My car is a 2002 mk2 so is just 18 months old - and has been modded a fair old bit - STUFF THE WARRANTY :D

200hp could be done I belive but its a loads of work

182 intake
Ported head
Cold air inake
Decat
Big exhuast for no back presure
Remap
Cams
Bigger TB
That should get you about 200hp

Alternatively you could ask the RR operator to mess about with the power loss figures and get a 200hp printout.
Or how about a 50 shot of NOS for a cheap 200hp.

roamer..where did you get this work done mate? what is the cost of each..thanks..is the 212 at the wheels then ..you ust be pushing 250 at the fly then?;)

212 doesnt sound like much, but believe me its FOOKING FAST on the road!!!!!

oh and i would love to see someone try and get 200bhp without using throttle bodies!!!!

yup 212bhp at the fly, and more to come I assure you guys....

and alot of money has been spent - I can assure you of that too :(

Roamer

the biggest problem you will come around is floating of your valves. Of course you can give it a shot of NOS or turbo it. But believe me you will probably notice yourself when driving it. What will be the next step.Did you get different gearing in already, because all the supervids Ive seen from your car indicates me you deff. need some. I had my 3rd and 4th gears changed on my mk1 there is a special differential built in simmilar as Rsport 1600cc.

I think you notice that mailto:+200@the">+200@the fly is hardly to get on the track and wheels keep spinning when kept standard.

p.s. I love the sound of your machine Roamer great job !!

200 without TBs is perfectly achievable

Its taken me a long while and a few mishaps with blown piston rings etc until I got the work done professionally.

Race spec flowed/ported head and inlet manifold, inlet and exhaust cams regrind, cat back exhaust, Unichip, BMC

orbisound racecat used in Cliocup, we have restrictions here in Holland and even on the road you can be stopped over by police for emmissions. So I dont risk it driving without cat. Sound is already VERY noticable so attention enough I would say.

Tony: Fred2001 above said it couldnt be done without TBs

I run a K-tec cat back with the mid silencer section, as the car needs to stay below 95-98 dBA for circuit use. Removing the silencer and replacing the cat will marginally improve performance

than hes wrong I run it already for 2 years (200+)

Never tried a car without cat so I cannot say something about performance but I think you r right will not bring the world in performance....

Has

  RS 182 - Black Gold

I was reffering to the chip+induction+exhaust = 200bhp bollox

Or in the case of LAD "give us your ££££ and well smile nicely at your car and give it back to you with 200bhp!!"

Too much bullsh*t about regarding tuning

Tony knows his stuff obviously, im not questioning that!!!!! By the look/sound of it phil and tony do things properly which is what i like to see!!!

will the std clutch, gearbox and driveshafts cope with a long term 200+bhp anyway

Ok...

Turbo, Nos, Supercharger, etc... ;)

200+bhp without the use of throttle bodies isnt hard, the correct work will see you there without much trouble.

If you got the money, we can talk about 300 odd bhp NA form F4R engines.

Whats there to tell. There is enough valve area for 320bhp, maybe slightly larger valves and more power.

Itll need to be steel cranks, ti rods and pistons, Ti valves, exteneive headwork, rather large diamter throttle bodies, a drysump system. The only thing your trying to achieve is the use of exotic materials to lighten up the rotating and reciprocating masses so you can run the most rpm possible within limits of the valve train assembly.

So I would need a de-cat, modded inlet manifold, exhaust, viper, cams, and remapped ECU to get to 200 hp? I am planning on keeping mine for ages so will have all the above in time.:)
