Over heating problems!!

Ive got a clio williams and have been having overheating issues. I have flushed the radiator and removed a whole load of crap from the cooling system. checked the oil and seals, so i dont think it is the head gasket. The car runs fine and takes the normall amount of time to warm up but when it gets hot, the temperature just keeps rising. when i switch the engine off the fan kicks in, but when i turn it back on, the fan cuts out. I think i need a new thermostate, but i am wondering if there is anything i have missed or over looked.

Thanks for your help

It got hot enough to get the warning light on. but since i have flushed the radiator, it takes slightly longer to reach that point and only heats up when stationary. I have just ordered a low temp thermostat from BB tuning and would like to do the job myself. is it a simple job? And as i said before, the fan kicks in when the engine is switched off the stops when the engine is started, is this a charateristic of a faulty thermostat?

I sorted the problem over the weekend. I had the thermostat replaced and when I got the old back it was completely rusted. But after that the car was still getting hot. So I got an electrician to come and have a look and it turned out to be a couple of wires that were loose (Thank God for that). So he gave it had it for 5 minutes and it was all fixed. Now the car is running as cool as a cucumber.
