Over Revving?

Car  Clio 1.4 '95 RT
I have a mk1 1.4 and it's over revving quite a bit, idles at 900, does 30 in 4th at 2K revs. Used to do 40 in 4th at 2K revs.
Any suggestions what this might be would be fantastic,
Cheers ALi

try flooring it in 5th at 30mph. it should take ages to build up speed with the revs staying relatively the same. If the revs rise instantly then your clutch is worn.

no matter whats wrong the speeds at cirtain rpm will be the same mate thats down to gearing-only a clutch slipping would give that impression

Cheers guys, hope its not. Might have a freakin leaky head gasket as well. Luckily got a whole headgasket set from work for a tenner, might as well get it anyway.
