Over Revving

  Clio 1.4 '95 RT
I started a thread on this subject before, was advised my clutch was on the way out, thankfully it's fine.
Basically my car used to do 30 in third at 2k revs, now it does 30 in fourth at 2k revs. Pain in the a!se I know!
Any suggestions on what the problem might be and how to fix it? I've got a 1.4 spi mk1, which as far as I'm aware doesnt have a seperate idle speed valve
Cheers, Ali

Faulty rev counter? Can you tell if its right?

Either that or the clutch is slipping or your just mistaken.

Er, unless its a diesel, isn't 30 mph at 2000 rpm in 4th about right?

A 172 does 16 mph/1000 rpm in 4th, so there doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with 15 mph/1000 in 4th in a 1.4.

I'll check mine for you tomorrow as i have the same model but it sounds like your just being paranoid to me tbh!

Thanks, the clutch isn't slipping, could it be clutch cable or something of that consortium?
Ok, this will sound weird, but sometimes when I push the clutch in, it feels inclined not to come out again as easily as I would like, i.e sticking at the bottom slightly? It's all pi**in' me right off tbh.

Cheers Ali

no no no lol, 2k rpm in FOURTH at 30, I would kill for it in second. . .I think, but yea, if cliogav could get back to me it would be fantastic.
