Over sensitive alarm

  Clio v6
Hey,

I don't know if all clios suffer from this but my v6 has a ridiculously sensitive alarm. Like if I fire my other car up next to it which has a very loud exhaust, it will set it going.... also the other week it was properly windy and it set it off then too. If I park it on the road and a truck or bus come past, again it will go off on one. It keeps doing it in the night and its absolutely s**t as f**k having to go outside at 4am to turn the fucker off with my nob head neighbour shaking his head at me through the window like im doing it on purpose!

Can they be de-sensitised without going to a garage?? I'm sure I once read somewhere you can do it with turning the ignition on and off a certain amount of times then play with some settings?

So please could someone shed some light cos our lass is getting well pissed off with it, which means I get an earful all the time and then that makes me pissed off lol

thanks!

I think you can swap the wires around in the sensors (on the a-pillars) and it de-sensitises it .. and you can put it into 'dog mode' with a certain turn of the key (check the manual) which disables the sensors, but then if someone actually pops a window, you won't know about it .. and that would get very boring every time you left it somewhere.

For a car like that, I'd get a decent Cat 1 alarm put in. Toad Ai606 always get good reviews, I had one on an old car many years ago with no problems at all. It actually brought my insurance down by £50 !

I've no idea if they're still available, but there'll be something newer/better/similar out there. From memory it was about £250 fully fitted.

Well worth it for a bit of peace (no pun intended ;) ) of mind over you V.

Also, while I think of it - while you're in the manual, check it's not something else like a dodgy door sensor setting it off. It'll tell you by the number of beeps or flashes on the LED when you unlock the car.. something like that.

Good luck !

Thanks dude :)

I'll check out the manual tonight, see what I can find.

I'd looked into an aftermarket alarm but considering it already has an alarm and it also has a tracker I didn't bother looking much further.

I'd park it in the garage but it won't bloody fit! My house has a stupidly narrow garage :(
