can somebody please summarise the pluses and minuses from their own experience?!

i been offered a V6 and ALWAYS wanted one. 02 phase 1 shape.
i have a ph1 172 at mo and think deal is my car and 6k for this v6 BEAST.

so far i only rang my insurance co and on 172 its £300 pa and v6 they want £1450 p.a!!!!

wats petrol like, running costs in general, and is bodywork pure ££££££££ in case of scuffs?

im not expectin it to be ferrari or even Mitsi evo quick but just love road presence and originality of v6 and obviously the sound and straight line power.

had a 328 sport b4 so guessin its gonna be as bad if not worse on juice?

how much u lot payin to insure and run these things?

plus: are u limited as to where u can go in a V6? i work in manchester city centre and use a multi storey to park - will this still be possible?

Ask fred he's got one, he's got to know the guy at the petrol station very well:D

My personal advice is stay clear - but thats my opinion. They are good fun to own and attract a lot of attention. They have the same road power as a 172 but dont handle as good as one. Its one of those cars you have to own to scratch the itch.....you will get bored of it very quickly and sell it

  BMW 328 Ci
V6 engines Drink a lot more fuel that straight 6's, so yes it will be worse than the BM. 328 should get high 20's early 30's, dont expect you get out of the low 20's in the Clio?

HARSH. might save it for the summer. own it a month or 2 then get rid. jsut really want to have one just to say 'ive had one'. know theres probs no realistic way i could afford to run one, or even if i did - spend that much on a car every month.
172 is perfect for me, well wud be if there wasnt a V6 version knocking about - as u said - need to scratch the itch :(

cud probs get same ££££ as wat i paid for it tho after only couple of months?

I had a ph1 172 got bored with it skipping all over the road as fwd cars do.

Moved to a MK 1 v6 and it was fantastic in every way. Looks, MUCH FASTER than my silly wee 172, and handled like a dream.

Sadly that was written off whilst parked. Moved on to a MK 2 v6 and this an interesting experience also.

Cars require a certain amount of petrol put into the tank to help them go.

Brown.

i had a ff 182 with lowering springs, then got a mk2 vee.... the only things i miss about the 182 are....... er... i know theres some...... oh yes the turning circle lol....vee is amazing. fuel is as far as goes not a factor.... drive it like a pussy and get 25mpg, drive it normal 23mpg......if ya do 70 for a long period it will go to 27-30mpg.... ya dont buy a car like this and worry about fuel costs.

vee's wet handling when driving normal is emmense... 182's was shocking

IMO IMO IMO IMO IMO..... i cant comment on the mk1 other then i know heARD there handling/areodynamics at speed were questionable

I love the V6's but only the Mk2's. Its hard to get a decent 2001 model for anything under 10k and I want a nice interior for that kind of money. If you want speed then you can get it elsewhere for less.

It should retain its value if its a mint model but silver mk1s will slightly go down more...

This guy is right. Upgrading to a Mk1 Vee is as pointless as upgrading to a 182.

My mate was going on about them for years and ended up keeping it a few months. I drove it a couple of times and didn't miss it when I got in my 182 but I did appreciate the benefits of my car. Sure it got loads of attention and was a laugh for a few miles but then you just realise it is a pain in the arse compared to driving/owning a 172/182.

172/182 is a good everyday car with cheap for what it is running costs. IF you want to pose, then you have to pay the price. Only downside is that according to a lot on here, the pose is pretty much the highlight of it.

The reason why I bought a 182 is not to pose, just to enjoy getting from point to point as quick as possible for the money.

  Clio-V6
i love my vee6

bought it for the fantastic looks and chariter, suits me down to the ground. used it as an everyday car, too busy looking at the road to care about the inerior to be honest.

cant comment on mk1 handeling as i have coilovers on mine and 18's, only spun it once though (track day)

mpg is poor, but its a v6 lump so its hardly gonna suck juice slowly.

honeslty - its such a lads car, if you want performance and economy buy a cup

they bump and grind cos they are so low. Fiel about mid to late 20smpg. and make sure you dont want to carry more than a rucksack with you.

I do miss the 182 in some respects but the V6 is so much more in terms of power/looks etc

  Clio 172 mk2
LOve the V6 but just not practical for me as I need to carry bikes in the car.

172/182 do offer pretty good economy when not being nailed:)

its a mixed bag!

i dont think i can part with my 172 just yet, im still not bored of it.
when it gets to 85 to 90k on the clock i'll think about trading it in for a V6 in summer for a couple of months.

think its just one of those things that has to be done otherwise it will bug me.

for the looks and the total lunacy of a car the size of ur mums tesco runabout, with a 3.0 v6 in the back seats and wide arch kit for around 11000 u cant say no i think.

wats everyones insurance like on them tho?
i got quoted £1500 almost and im 27, with 6 yrs NCB, no points and no claims/accidents, parked in a garage with leccy gates. thought £1500 was a bit harsh.

whos that with then? im payin £300 for fully comp NCB protected on my 172 with privilege, and cant believe the jump to £1500 for a v6.
thought id be paying like 800 for it

i was seriously considering getting a vee, i mean they look mint without modifying them there fast without tuning them and the RWD, it seemed to have everything but then i started to think of the extra petrol cost and how it would add up then i started to think about services and spare parts, it put me off a little i'd like one but i think i'll be tb'ing the 172 instead

So moving from FWD to RWD, and moving from front engine to mid engine, and 2 ltr to 3ltr, and the looks, the rarity, the noise, the speed (in real world driving), they are all pointless?

Going 172 - 182 is a slightly newer and different version of the same thing. And yes IMO fairly pointless.

The Vee is a totally different car to a 172/182. When will people on here stop comparing them.

Upgrade if you want any of the unique features of the Vee. Otherwise save money and keep your 172. Easy.
