Paint is still soft?!?!

  Clive the Clio no. 2
I have a habit of cleaning my car every week, i love keeping it clean, but mymate said that i need to stop cleaning it as the paint is still soft because its a new car.

He said i should wait until the paint is baked on in the summer and then start cleaning again in a couple of months.

This true? I dont want to stop cleaning my car but if it will effect the paint then i might have to stop

any ideas or thoughts?

lol! Paint is as hard as it ever will be 50mins after bein sprayed. Joys fo Water based paints.

Polishing/compound grits will cut the paint bak a bit.

lol - the car was baked in the factory and will have been polished in the factory, carry on as you where.

Paint has always been fine to polish from fresh, just not wax or seal in some cases

If you've just had something sprayed I would leave it for a week or so.

Cars painted in the factory will be fine to polish.

If you have had something sprayed I would ask the person that painted it how long until you can wax/seal it.

It will have already been polished anyway.

Was it cooked though? If it was cooked it will of bin fine. It is likely you sprayed it and left it in a cool garage which will take a while to fully harden

he aint had no work done to it has he? his mate says its not ok to polish a factory card, which is a load of b****cks.

tell your mate he dunno what hes talking about.

even a freshly painted car out the bodyshop is fine to work on.

s**t, i wetflat/polish cars straight out the booth on some extreme cases, the paint is still very slightly tacky, but its gotta go that day.

usually cars am baked then left a couple hours to cool off and set properly.

it wont be fully cured for a couple weeks or so, but its still fine to polish it etc in those few weeks, just dont go crazy on it

It's the cooling down after being in the oven that hardens the paint. The paint will continue to cure for a couple o weeks after painting, but bearing in mind the car was probably painted in the factory about 3 weeks before you get the car, it's as hard as it'll ever get. As said above, you can polish straight from the booth. We polished a car only 20mins after taking it outa the booth as we were rushing to a show! Polish/wax away at it!
