Paint Matching etc

Hi all.

Ive got a 2003 1.2 16v Clio dynamique in metallic platimum silver

I need a new door & electric wing mirror....

& I got a good quote for an exact replacement door (apart from the green billabong inserts which i can get from mine) in my colour...

Now Im not sure if this is a stupid question or not, but will the colours match from the new door (in the same colour) to my car?

Coz I dont know how they can get the colour exactly right on all the batches... correct me if im wrong tho!

You are right that batches of colour can vary but should only by by a tiny amount. Silver is a real pig of a colour to match so last thing you want to do is need to re-spray the door. Can you get a look at it alongside your car before you part with the cash?

Not really mate, the breakers are up in norwich! & I cant get my car to any of the breakers around 20miles away as it aint road legal :(

See if you can find out the paint code on the one your getting the door off.

If it matches yours you should be ok. Your paint code is a 3 digit number usually in the door i think on newer clios.

As you can see, mine isnt new so i might be wrong on that.

There are variant shades of most colours, but usually its very slight so you should be fine matey.....Good luck.

Cheers mate! I will try the paint code idea first for sure!

Didnt think of that :)

Any other ideas/advice keep them coming :)

Try your nearest Movac paint suppliers etc. They will make up any colour and supply it in spray form.

Quote: i might be able to get you a cheap door, remember the 1998 onwards is the same door

How cheap is cheap? ive got a quotes from 150 upwards exc VAT from scrappy. (think thats in platimum silver but havent told them my paint code)

& u sure about them being the same door mate? I thought the bump strips were completely different....

But if so keep me informed mate, i will need one soon!

but will my bump strips fit onto that door perfectly?

& the silver on the mk2 ph1 is slightly different isnt it? which means i will have to get it resprayed =/ Coz my mates silver mk2 ph1 looks a lot different to mine!

yeah theyll fit no probs, itll need a respray though!!!

dont you have to replace the rear 1/4 and roof???? so the car will need sraying anyhow???

Wouldnt it be cheaper just to get a door in my colour to start off with?

About the quarter panel, Not sure if i need a new one... Might be able to get the dents knocked out! But how do u fit a new quarter panel?! from what I see it goes all the way along the bottom of the car to the front wheel?!

And i dont think the whole car will need a respray.... as the only things that need spraying is the door, roof & the rear 1/4, thats only 1/4 of the car or even less!

so if i get a door from a scrappy in my colour that means only the 1/4 panel will need respraying (assuming it can be knocked out) and also the roof!

they cut your old one off and weld a new one on!!!!!!! sounds nasty, but if the bodyshop are good, you wont be able to tell!!

yeah you could get a door in the same silver, but it wont be a 100% match.

Say if i took the bumper off one silver car and swapped it with a bumper that had been sprayed in the exact same colour the colour wont be 100% spot on, this is why when new bumpers are fitted etc, they need to be sprayed on the car

its all to do with the number of passes the spray gun makes, this affects the "thickness of the paint hence the depth of colour

this is my assumption of what most sprayers have told me

If it were my car, id spray the door + rear 1/4 + roof and have it blended into the front wing and rear bumper

dont really have to worry about the roof, cos no one really sees it in detail ans the hatch is seperated nicely by the rear

easy. mate, just buy the door. if your quarters gotta be repaired then you gotta paint the new door anyway, so why worry if the colours off? if the colour IS a mile off... then all you gotta do is blend into the wing. As for puttin a new quarter on, i managed to put 1 on my clio on my m8s drive with a lil welder lol, all good :p. try gets some pics up of your quarter so we can see how bad it is.
