Painting exhaust parts??

  PH1 172 Sport
I have just sourced a brand new renault dual chamber cat from ebay as the one on my car has developed a hole seems to have been changed about 3 years ago from receipts that came with the car but its rusted through already.

Was thinking of treating the new cat with some high temp paint to give it some protection. Would this have any side effects?

May i ask how paint will offer protection? You do realise that the exhaust will rust inwards - outwards? Not outwards - inwards...

No side effects but its pointless

still dont get why nobody has made up a sprung slip jointed decat pipe.
then you would just put the same fittings on your old cat and its a 5 min job to swap the two over.
so obvious yet never seen one... will make one next time im bored methinks.

The dual chamber twin cat on the 172mk1 was the best imo, seems less restrictive. Mine lasted 8 years, only took it off for a sports cat.

heat paint won't handle the heat of a CAT imo! those f**kers get VERY VERY hot

I'd say, I drove my car for 5 Mins then went to remove the Cat and it was Burning my hands through Welding Gloves 30 Minutes later, Cooled down after laying it outside in the Winter for like an Hour

After looking a reciepts more closly it seems the catylst could possibly be the original one that came with the car so its done 6 years. From the new cat I have they dont seem particually restictive. I dont know if ill ever get round to changing it for a sports cat.

Ive got one...

Bendy bit of cat pipe stays on the car, and i just swap what looks like half a cat (the working parts) over come mot time.

Sounds a good idea. How much was it to get set-up?
