My bro is spray painting some handle bars for his bike... just wanted to know the process for prepping/spraying etc?

is it exactly the same as plastic painting? Thanks :)

Mods- dunno if this is in the right section but i think it is, move as you see appropriate if not!

are they bare metal?

if so, rough them up with something like P320 and use etch primer, just a couple of dust coats to cover is fine.

let that dry, give it a key with whatever you have handy, the p320 dry is fine or you could use wetordry P800,p1000 or p1200.

then use normal primer over that aerosol cellulose is fine. prep that the same way

then basecoat, laquer it

or just paint if its high solid single stage.

if it does need laquer, make sure you put plenty on as theyll get some wear n tear. also be careful when putting on the brake grips etc, make sure its 100% dry

well the bars were painted, but he's sanded it down to the bar chrome bit, it feels reely smooth... so i buy etch primer, sand, normal primer, sand, basecoat, loads of laquer?

thanks btw FM

yup yup, always use etch primer on bare metal staff or else it will all come flaking off, especially on something like handlebars, they need to be durable. so plenty of laquer too

anytime
