painting rocker cover

my rocker is slightly scratched, and apart from anything i want my new williams engine to look differnt and mint to the untrained eye, i was thinking of painting it, has anyone done this and kept the finish long term?

i dont want bright colours, dark metalic grey would be good, is normal paint and filler OK or hightemp stuff needed?

Lofty

You know how hot the engines get mate.
So you have to use as much heat proof prima as pos! And keep your fingures crossed!

the guy in the body shop today said it would be best done with hammerite paint and no primer,

he was sure this was the best way to do it,

i will have a go

yeah use hammerite. ive used it several times now on my rocker covers, and it works fine. stays smooth, and doesnt wrinkle or melt.

well, ew painted the cover on our XJR in normal silver paint.....

no probs with the heat.

and a supercharged V8 gets a bit hotter than a 16V..

Mines colour coded to match the paintwork by Hillpower and it seems to be fine - and it does getquite hot under there!
