depends on the colour of your wheels.

say if you are having them white, then you could do them either 2 stage or single stage.

2 stage would be your white basecoat which would be the colour you mix and between 1:1 and 2:1 thinner (generally 50/50), and then your laquer on top (4:1 with 2k hardener and 10% thinner usually).

single stage would just be your colour and 2k hardener again, depends on the paint, itll have the ratio on the side, mix it with 2k hardener and itll dry to a glossy finish.

if your painting metallic then itll always be 2 stage or 3 stage. 3 stage would include a groundcoat for covering potential.

so, basically, youre gonna need;

measuring cups
strainers
paint
laquer
hardener
thinners

as for how much you need for full set of wheels, depends if youre having them metallic or high solid.

metallic id probably just get 1/4 a litre of colour which would mix up into 1/2 a litre with the thinners added. if you think you may make some mistakes, then just buy half a litre of paint n have some left over for something else

3 types you may use

cellulose
2k
plastic

cellulose is mixed with thinners, ratio is on the tin, usually about 4:1. i use this for primering things like small filler work, scratches, small things. has decent enough filling potential and dries very fast (solvent evaporation) (30 minutes)

2k is mixed with hardener and a bit of thinners sometimes, ratio is on the tin, between 4:1 and 5:1 with 2k hardener and 10% thinners. very good covering potential, i use this for all my main filler work, all big repairs. takes a couple hours to dry properly, less if you apply heat.

plastic primer is used on plastic parts like bumpers etc. plastic primer out the spray gun dont need to be sanded down, its basically a wet on wet with the basecoat, just promotes addhesion, reduces risk of flaking

I find Dulux and a couple of different sized rollers for different panel sizes to be quite good.

might find this funny, but in one of my old work places, we used to put 2k primer on with a mini roller. wasnt any overspray or anything, was great. the repairs was bang on too, best ive seen upto date

ive tryed using the roller tecnique at work too with primer, didnt really get on with it tho as it was leaving loads of pin holes in the primmer and by the time you had flatted them out, there was no primer left on the repair so you would end up spraying it any way
