I recently did my williams wheels myself in the back garden. Firstly i sanded them completely smooth all over, then gave 2 coats of primer, a bit more sanding where it ran a bit, then 3 coats of paint (just used rattle cans) then 3 coats of clear laquer. I'm pleased with the results of mine and they haven't chipped having been on the car nearly a month.
Pics of the progress here, did it all in one day. People recommend you should take more time though to let the layers fully harden before applying the next layer, but i was too impatient:rasp:
As i bought them, gold
Masked and sanded
Primered and sanded
After 3 coats of paint
After the 3 coats of laquer
And on the car
The more preparation you do the better the result will be, take your time and try not to put the paint on too thick, but at the same time you want a nice even coverage
