Panel Filters vs Induction kits

apologies if this has already been discussed.

i was gonna get either a panel filter or an induction kit for my 172 cup. I have read a lot of people saying on here to just go with the panel filter. why is this? are you gonna gain anything with just using an ITG panel filter for example? also will it make a noise or would it just sound the same? also, is ITG the best to go for in the first place? what are your thoughts on K&N and other big names?
