Parts for a gearbox

Hi all my 182s box needs 3 synchro rings and a 3rd gear. Any idea if this is economical to repair and if so where I can get the parts from? Cheers

I just tore the gbx down myself to fit a Quaife ATB, it is a rather complicated operation, but if you are an experienced DIY you can manage. Overhaul kit with syncrings, bushings and everything is about £85. Dont know that the 3rd gear will set you back though.

Did you get the overhaul kit from Renault? Might not be too bad. Mate will be doing the work bit too advanced for me lol.
 
One of the cheapest options is a box from a breakers, a reasonably low mileage box will set you back £250-300 which is good when you consider they are a £1k plus from Renault new!

yeah Im in NI tho so shipping is a mare :(

priced a repair kit and 3rd gear from renault came in at 257 (kit) + 107 (3rd) so dear enough. Plus they dont have a 3rd gear in the UK.
 
ah NI - I feel your pain - shipping really is a nightmare considering your hardly across the Atlantic!

One of our customers popped a box in style yesterday, third gear made a whole-hearted bid for freedom and succeeded!

reckon a box is under 30kgs? Im doubtful but would be bloody awesome if it was! £11 shipping then ;)
 
£977.50 for something that is hardly perfect - I think it was Dr_Rollo on here who had a new one pop after 50 miles :eek:

is that £85 from renault? Which dealer? did you get a part number?

New bearings and oil seals are £135, too. They should be done if the box is coming apart.

I've got a full gear set from a Ph1 172 (JC5 089) sitting in the shed. Looks fine to me.

I'm not sure how the ratios differ though.

I say it's fine, the cogs themselves are good. The shaft span a bearing, and so it's knackered..

I've got the whole box in bits... It span a bearing on the main gear set, but all the rest looks fine..

All the internals will be the same, bar the gear ratios, I believe.

A pm to Stan* might clear things up, He's good with 'boxes, I think..

All JC5 boxes will fit a 182.

With the JC5 089 (Ph1) & 129 (172 cup), thy have a speedo cable sensor, but this just becomes redudant in a 182 as the 182 used ABS to work the speedo.

hmmm might be an option to fire a lower model box onto it then. only to keep it going for a few trackdays while I got mine rebuilt.

wonder which is the strongest? dci one?

any thoughts appreciated.
