PC Experts - Recommend me a Mobo

Ok I know there are a few PC types in here, can anyone recommend me a
motherboard?

Needs to have...

4 x SATA channels (4 is a minimum - pref 6)

2 x IDE channels (each with 2 on of course)

PCIe GFX Slot (pref. SLi)

Decent on board sound (optical as well as analog out would be nice, but like
5.1 analog is a must)

DDRII and if possible DDRIII complience (don't know if that's possible - but it has to be able to take minimum 4gb DDRII, pref. 8gb.)

Dual Core and Quad Core Intel Chip complience. (got a Core 2 Duo at the
moment which will be going in it, might want more in the future)

Massively would prefer an Intel chipset.

That is your task - not a crap brand. Links? Sub £100.

Thanks dudes :)

Dan

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Why do you want IDE (and more notably, so many of them)?

Why do you want an Intel chipset? nVidia 680i is better if you want to do SLI - and it's debatable that the Intel one is better at all...

ddr3 is a shite waste of money 4gb ddr2 is fine

sli is s**t, a single card setup is a lot less fussy

why do you want ide it sucks. just buy sata 2 hdd's and optical drives there cheap enuff

this is an overclockers board my e6300 is at 3.2 ghz under water and has been 100% stable for months now and it will do 3.4 + on this board

but if clocking isnt your thing this board will do anyway

Why is it s**t? Just because a single card is less fussy it doesn'tmean its "s**t" to be fair.

If he wants just bog standard storage then there's no reason why IDE isn't prefectly good enough for the job.

ok sli may not quit be s**t, but theres not that many games that can support it, it takes alot of stting up/constant configuration, and a single card is enogh for most resolutions. just buy an 8800gtx /ultra this will do 1680x1050 at max settings on everything except maybe crysis

but i spose if you really are loaded and game on a 30" dell then an sli 8800 ultra setup is what you want..... theres pros and cons for everything at the end of the day

i cant stand ide as those big ide cables look unsightly and hinder ait flow inside your pc and sata 2 is faster at data transfer, i run 2x seagate 7200:10's in raid 0 and for me ide is just old and slow

I agree that SLi is really just for the big boys. As for IDE, yes it is pretty slow and such but like I said for storage a few milliseconds of accessing time doesn't really matter, nor does transfer time too much. And also IDE cables dont have to be big and restricting, I have round cables which are about 1.5cms diameter and they work fine.

I'm not trying to start an argument, I just thought if he has specified 4 SATA slots and 2 IDE connections I'm sure he has reason for this.

That is your task

Who the hell do you think you are and we are that you "give us tasks".

Look for yourself you lazy bugger.

It was tongue in cheek, I was looking for recommendations from users.

IDE - because I have a couple of optical IDE drives still that I'm a bit attached to, and a couple of IDE hard drives, used for storing stuff I don't use very often but don't wanna bin.

Intel Chipset - I was told they were loads better from a compatibility point of view with Vista 64 - which is what I'm running? Is that not accurate then? As you can see my knowledge here is a bit limited heh - I used to be big into the computer thing but I'm so out of touch at the moment!

SLi - only wanted the option cos it seemed silly not to have that upgrade potential at a future point. Presently looking for a 8800GT when I can find somewhere that has them in stock, not madly over priced.

DDR3 - don't have DDR3 Ram, again it was just from a 'future buys' point of view.

Stinka - cheers for the link - looks to do the job aside from the IDEs and apparently I can get adaptors to plug them into Sata plugs anyway - is that true or have I misunderstood?

On another note - does anyone have any experience of Western Digital Raptor 10krpm hard drives? I fancy one of the 150gb ones as my boot drive. I see they have a 5 year warranty so one assumes they're pretty reliable?

Thanks for all the helpful replies :)

craptors are over rated and overpriced

i looked at these and went for 2x 200gb seagate 7200:10's in raid 0 on that motherboard easy to set up and alot faster and under £100

p35 chipset is vey good and currently proven as very good

i would get rid of the ide optical and use a sata 2 as there under £20 and faster then you can run 2 hdd on your ide channel master and slave

or use a pci ide card if you insist on using ide but sooner you move to sata 2 the better as thats the way it going now

went down the sli route with a evga 680i board and 2x 7800gts in sli complete pita and cost a fortune imo dont bother

now use p35 ds3r with single 8800gtx
