Pc Help!!!

Right my hard drive decided to fry itself on monday for no reason!
So it now has a 250gb maxtor jobby in here and they managed to save my pics, work and videos costing me a grand total of £175
So i turn the pc on tonight and its like an old windows 95 setup, i change that to xp however its still not right!
LOTS of my font for files, web address bars etc are all smudged at the top and bottom, looks s**t and does my eyes in, messed around with settings of display with no luck - any ideas??
Also when you click control panel you used to get a list of icons such as display network connections and a box on the left with file properties and a few shortcuts down the side, thats also gone??
Any ideas would be much appreciated!

WHERES THE BIT ON THE LEFT GONE???

ALL THE WRITING IS REALLY BLURRY AT EITHER THE TOP OR BOTTOM, DNT LOOK AS BAD HERE


its as if the quality has all ben turned down

the resolution is how i had it before, the refresh rate is the same, its 16 bit not 8 bit

Looks like its in classic mode mate
right click the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and select properties at the bottom of the list, then click the start menu tab and make sure its got start menu rather than classic menu highlighted.

Actually scrub that, its total b****cks open control panel and select tools then folder options at the bottom of the list, in the tasks bit make sure its got show common tasks in folders selected.

that will make the bit on the left re-appear.
