I go for the value aspect of it tbf. 3570 and a 670 will last me a fair while (bought last July). I tend to get 3 years out of my rigs by buying smart rather than just buying the latest and greatest. Suits me down to the ground. 1200 odd quid every 3 years doesn't really hurt the pocket.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there, m8. If you look at it as an ongoing concern over multiple years, it doesn't batter the wallet much at all. People laugh that you're spending that much over circa 36 months anyway, but it's clearly horses for courses. I know people who can't abide to have the 'current' mobile phone for 6 months without upgrading. Or some people who'll spend several hundred on a camera lens when their mates are happy to stick with a point & shoot camera.

I just love the fact that their is hardware out there - available to the general public, that produces such results like those above. It may cost a fair whack to buy, but doesn't everyone spend more than what's needed on something they are interested in? :)

I just think once you've seen what is out there and how good things can look, it's difficult to down-scope from there on in. I'd rather just not bother...

That might sound really daft but it's just how it is, I hate not being able to play something at it's maximum settings, always have lol.

Not really played much of Bioshock, should probably get around to it.

How big are these shots? I've got 40mb with 60 ppp and my laptop is shitting itself.

I'll show my mate these later, he will no doubt fap himself to death over them.

That cloth vid is amazing, really puts the so-called next gen in the shade.

When I read your spec the cost implications of such a beast blew my mind...then I considered that I have well over £2k of camera equipment sat here that gets used two or three times a week, and it put things in perspective.

These screenshots are absolutely amazing!

I dont have a gaming PC, would love to get one but I currently don't have enough knowledge of the equipment/set up I would need....or the money at the moment lol

Please keep the screenshots coming! :)

I'm not currently playing many games that are graphically intense really. I'll upload a few shots, where possible the settings are all put to max.

I'm currently into dirt 3 on a single 7970 also, but running 3 monitors, and it handles it VERY well with everything maxed out. I'm in love with 3 monitors so I had to order a steering wheel to have a mess about with, I got the Thrustmaster f430 wheel and it will be here tomorrow! Crysis 3 on the other hand, 3 solid fps on everything maxed out! Had to turn it down to medium for 45-65 fps. I can see me getting another card soon.

  Cupra
I've only got the two monitors. It's impossible to drive with the split in the middle.
Steering wheel makes it a lot more fun. I can never be bothered to get mine out though!

A couple from my work/dev machine of the FaceWorks demo (running on SLI'd GTX 680's at 2560x1440).

EDIT: Damn... auto-scaling won't allow the full image resolution!

Finally, a few of an in-development (hobbyist) terrain engine I am writing that can stream real world height data (in this case, from LIDAR sources) and display it. Sorry for the gaps along the seams. I'm part way through writing a new triangle-strip generator that blends together different terrain LOD's and it's not finished yet... These scenes below are running on a DirectX9 based engine I wrote and have full dynamic lighting, god rays, etc. and are comprised of anywhere between 1 and 16 million polygons depending on complexity and LOD. Also, apologies for the low-res skybox as I'm yet to implement a suitable atmospheric scattering algorithm for this engine...

Source height data resolution and satellite imagery was grabbed from free online sources so are not the best quality!

Cheers, Mike! It will look even better when you sell me your ultra-ultra-widescreen Dell monitor and Titans... :p

I have to admit that I was/would be a bit dubious about gaming on such an 'unconventional' aspect ratio /resolution but I'm liking the immersion / cinematic feel. I might see if work can be persuaded to trial a few of them seeing as they have some agreement with Dell! I won't hold my breath though.
