Hi all.. getting in a right tangle at the moment..
im with NTL and have always been connected via USB to the modem.. i need to change to ethernet due to adding a router between the modem and PC...
Got a few numerous problems, and think they are all linked... youll need to bear with me though as they may not seem straight forward… here are a few notes which will help diagnoise and explain the problems :
1) When i power down PC and modem, UNPLUG the usb connection, link the two with an ethernet cable then switch all back on I was told this would work.. But no.. No connection at all… the light under "Enet" doesn’t go on on the modem AND the little flicking lights on my ethernet port on my PC don’t light up..
2) Ive tried uninstalling the USB cable modem then using the disc to reinstall it and choose the option ETHERNET.. But it "errors" and says I have 2 entries of "35100 usb cable modems" installed.. ?!?!... I goto device manager > network adaptors > then try to uninstall one of these two but get given the error "Failed to uninstall device, this device maybe used to boot the computer"?!?!?!1 eh??.. (oh, ive tried going in safe mode and deleting but still same message)
3) I tried to use my router to see what would happen… when I powered up my router then connected my PC ethernet port AND router LAN port the little flicky lights next to the ethernet port on my PC started flashing!!!.. They didn’t when connected directly to my NTL MODEM… does this indicate that the ethernet port on my cable modem maybe bust?
Phew.. That’s it.. Any tips help would be appreciated!!! Thanks…
