In short my PC is doing my box at the moment and really needs kicking into touch. Do i replace it with another PC or go mac? I only use the machine for web browsing, msn (when i can get it to work!!), audio and visual stuff not for gaming or any work/accounting useage. Pro's and cons for both, i know in the past people mentioned with mac's they've suffered no virus problems at all which would be nice.

PC Vs Mac

I've spoken to a couple of mac owners who've said the same, they've told me the OS is alot more stable and intuitive than windows and that they dont suffer from virus'. The reason im asking on here is that i have a feeling they are more sold on them due to looks/image than actual usage.

Macs are cool... no spyware, not many virii and don't crash. Had macs for about 6 years now and can count the times they have crashed on one hand!!.
All or most of the software you find on a PC can be found for a Mac so you won't be left out.
the latest system OS10.4 (tiger) is built around Unix so you can't get much stabler than that.

or you could go second hand off ebay but be prepared to pay what they almost cost new as they hold their price for years.

Out of the box you can watch dvds, edit movies, download pictures from
your camera. It's got mobile phone syncing built in, so it's possible that out of the box it'll integrate with your phone.
Everything so darn easy and intuative to use, there's no registry crap, to install a program you just copy it to your harddrive. It's not just that it looks better, it's better to work with.
Only time I turn on the PC at home is if I want to play with google earth.
Oh and before anybody mentions it, yes they ship with a "one" button mouse, but if that really bothers you, simply plug in a two button mouse and away you go.

With ref to the above.... IF a mac goes wrong... thats the point, they rarely ever do. I know if mine does... i have apple care so a wuick trip to apple and its all sorted. Some myths scare people away.

admittedly... changing from a PC running purchased applications to a Mac then yes, it will cost a lot to replace all those Apps..... but straight out of the box all the Apps that come with it are far superior than the the ones that come with the PC. Then there's always UseNet.... as long as you have Little Snitch installed..
Im not spending 2k, i dont need specialist software of any type nor will the machine be used for gaming. Like i say will be used for web browsing, email, msn, mp3 and video playback and burning discs etc and thats about it. So all im interested in is something with quick easy software thats stable resistant to virus' and adaware without having to spend a fortune very five minutes getting software to sort it.

You implied, unless I misread it, that PC's are better because there's more of them.
Most people will be using windows PC's at work, they'll settle for what they know, doesn't mean it's better or worse though.
I guess when the intel mac's ship, PC users won't be able to play the (non-issue, at least for me) "speed card" anymore.

He's running 98 though, I'm guessing his hardware is going to be rather out of date and wouldn't run XP well - there's probably no hardware worth salvaging from it either.
Either way (pc or mac), I suspect he's going to be buying a whole new box of tricks.
