PC will not turn off!!

I can put it in standby but thats it... unless I hold down the power key for 10 seconds!

If I choose shut down or restart it does nothing...

Its running XP.

Any suggestions to aid a fix?!

Close all your programs and unplug it, Iv done that to mine for three years and its still fine.

Right.. fixed it... we have a tupid HP printer at work which has lots of software, one of which is HP monitor, this was refusing to shut down... got rid of the thing!

HP stuff is gash for that, scanner and printer at work are HP and I've never once felt the need to use the Hp software.
