pc'ed silver 172

  172 mk2
with all you cleaning specialists there must be someone with a silver 172!!

just after some pictures of how much it works on the silver. obviously it makes more of a difference on black, red and blue but silver???

mine always looks the same, is it worth buying the big boys toys.

post your pictures up

pretty please

(should this be in the cleaning section, i am asking for pictures tho.. :S )

hmm... interesting thread! :)

my titanium doesnt really look that different after a good clay/polish/wax.

ive used several different products including a rotaty thiing, cheap B&Q one and to be honest it just looks the same if i used soap and water.

tried claying, wax, polish, megs, auto stuff

just looks the same

carbon copy, is that soap+water or a pc, sorry if you've spent days on it, just looks clean...

I know what you mean mate...Its like the black cars are mirrored and you can see everything in them when you take a photo where as the silver cars it doesnt seem the same! I asked r-jay about this as i only use megs wax and he said try putting polish on 1st for the shiney look....

so basically there isnt alot we can do to our much loved iceberg..

best colour of the lot anyway, doesnt need anything done to make it look better than the other colours!

Heres my old 172

To get it to this level I used Megs #80 & #83 combo, topped with #21 and then #16.

IMHO iceberg with a bit of effort can look fantastic, it took me months of trying different products before I got the finish I liked.

P.s. Buying a PC was the best money I have spent in a long time, would recommend anyone thinking of getting one to go on and take the plunge:)

I noticed a difference on my Iceberg, before looked good but not "WOW" if that makes sense. After using the PC and various product the paint started to get a mirror finish to it, which was far easier to maintain.

R20 GRC that looks very nice mate:)

One of the benefits of Silver is it doesn't show up swirls etc like deeper/darker colours. Mine lookd fine and dandy after a good clay/polish/wax and certainly much better than when it's just been washed. The poiish and wax add a bit of depth imho.

that last picture looks good can really see the blue through the silver.

isnt there several types of silver on the 172/182s?

think mine is iceburg...

Titanium on Ph1 172's, a few late Ph1's were also available in Iceburg.

Ph2 172's are in Iceburg Silver (there are 5 different variants in the renault colour cards)

182's are Titanium Silver.

And Iceburg is by far the best. ;)

can these be seperated by eye?

why 5, different ages = different colours?

Not sure. A friend of mine sprayed my spoiler. He works for Land Rover, but has access to every paint code under the sun. He had the Renault colour cards and there were 5 different variants of 'Gris Iceburg'.

I have no idea which of these variants were used on the Clio apart from revsion 5, as that was a perfect match for mine. I have seen LOADS of poorly matched Iceburg spoilers and I think the reason is that people are not using the correct revision.

you can tell that carbons had been pc'd in the first pics, but the difference is not as much as it would be on a dark colour.

I have a silver 306 as well as my Black 182, After a good PC'ing it does not look much different to just giving it a wash.

A good polish and wax, will increase the gloss and shine in the flesh, but pictures wont really show it up. Silver is a very reflective colour, so they way light reflects of it won't ever allow the same depth as a black car will give you.

The same as swirl marks hardly show up on Silver unless you really look for them.

  ST on the way...
Yeah, with the silver you get more reflection from the metallic particles in the paint than you do from the laquer.

Think mk1 V6's were Titanium. Same as your 182. As in plain boring Silver. Actuall an identical colour as used on four million Toyota Yaris's. :rasp:

largerlout, can you tell me what codes there are for the iceberg silver? I've been looking for the right one for mine for well over a year! Renault don't seem to have a clue when I tell them the touch-up stick they gave me isn't the same colour as my model. I think they only supply one variant in the form of touch-up paint and it's not blue enough to match my paint.

Thanks.

I can't personally. My friend had the renault colour cards.

I gave him the paint code (MV640 iirc) and he did a spray out on a sample card. I put it flat on my roof and it was WAY darker than my paint.

He then got the Renault colour cards and held the 5 variants of iceburg to my car in different lights and we chose the best by eye.

BUT I recently had my bumer resprayed by a Renault Specialist paint shop and the colour is spot on. So there has to be a way of telling which revision, but I don't know how. I would have thought that they could tell from the VIN/chassis number.

^^ hopefully, would be a bit worrying if they couldnt match it up, would get them to re paint it till it was spot on..
