Looking for a new graphics card (pci express). On a limited budget so i have between 100-150. Any recommendations? I am a mega call of duty 2 fan so it would be nice to run it at full res for a change. 2nd hand or new, either way is good for me.

^^^^ - yep, 8800 (Longy) all the way m8.

Unless you can find some cheap 7900 cards knocking about. Not DX10 capable, but CoD2 does utilise SLi optimisation. I noticed a big improvement when the 2nd 7900GTX card was used.

Thing is the 8800 is fast and is DX10 so future proof for awhile - why buy a older gen card?

I said it would be good if he found some 'cheap' really. Maybe eBay or Amazon? DX10 games are still a bit off yet and you'll need Vista too.

Depends how desperate he is to get CoD2 back up and running! ;)

My choice would be between

ATI X1950Pro £130ish
ATI X1950XT (then overclock to XT-X specs) £165ish
NVIDIA 8800GTS 320Mb version £205

Most of the reviews make a point of saying that although the 8800GTS is DX10, it's more than likely that the 320Mb memory may hinder performance at/over 1600x1200 with AA/AF maxed out and recommend if your going the DX10 route to have minimum 640Mb memory, but thats prob another £60

hehe wasn't aiming that at you bud - just saying generally :)

As for PSU - make sure its got the right power connector for PCI-E cards, and 450 is a little low - I know my 1950xt liked more power (and killed a 480w I had).

The 8800 can be had for £188.47 Inc VAT (see link at top) so about £20 more than the X1959XT and better performance/dx10

Bugger. I already have a PCI-E card installed. Just a cheapie that came woth the computer. Better start bidding for another psu than!

450 should be fine.

The best cheapest 8800 is the BFG 320mb GTS however it aroun £170-£180. I went for the EVGA Superclocked 320mb GTS which was £200

^ Soz, had missed that
£188 is an amazing price for what you get, I'm sure it either pips or beats the X1950XT-X in most benchies

No, no - I see that. I didn't think you were having a go anyway! :)

As for the PSU, Ant - just stick with a reputable make. My Antec 550w-rated unit happily supports two 7900GTX cards....
