Pembrey Circuit Track Day - South Wales

Been speaking to Telford_Mike about the track day calendar for this year. There is the Pembrey circuit near Swansea in South Wales which is used by some F1 teams for testing.

On June 5th there is a track day being organised by http://www.motorsport-events.co.uk/http://www.motorsport-events.co.uk/ costing £159 at this venue.

I was just wondering what the interest may be in this event ?

Could be very popular for Wales, the West and Midlands members ?

Dai

PS Sorry mods, had to post it in here as I cannot post in the meetings forum till my membership comes back.

pembrey is just up the road from me, its quite a fast track with a tight hairpin just off the start/finish. £159 sounds good, would you need track insurance ontop though??

It has been mentioned on the board that insurance is a waste of time as long as you dont drive like a madman ! I have never been on a trackday so I dont know what its like but people who have done says that you can get away without insurance.

Personal preference I suppose.

Trackday insurance is very much a personal choice, and something that it would be foolish to dispense advice upon (tempting fate after all!). All you can do is a quick poll to see how many people buy it - youll find its not many at all.

Its ok to drive fast, as long as you realise that your car wasnt designed for racing, and therefore has a few limitations. The main one is brakes. Unless youve spent a load of dosh on expensive calipers and discs, your brakes will begin to overheat after a few laps - after all how often do you brake hard from 100mph to 40mph in every day driving? On a trackday youll be doing that at least once a minute!

After about 10 laps at Donington (for example) its foolish to carry on - the brakes need to cool down. Tyres are the next thing - road tyres will get really hot, and the car just doesnt turn-in after a while. To combat this you start hanging the tail out on corners and going sideways, which makes matters even worse.
