Perspex Bonnet

Has anyone got any ideas as to whether a full perspex bonnet is a possibility, I know they have started doing the vents, but I want to go all the way and have a full perspex bonnet!!

  Clio v6

I tried everywhere for a perspex engine cover but just got "Too much heat" as an answer. Good luck!

the main problem with perspex is after a while in direct sunlight and also under extreme temperatures the perspex will turn a cacky yellow colour and look awful

my brother owns a laser cutting company who specialise in perspex, i was talking to him bout this and he said that it is possible, although to get impact perspex and heat resistant perspex your talking mega bucks, thousands, and no-one in this country would do it. could be possiblefor shows etc, but still very expensive, perspex vents may be well possible though.

not perspex but probably better, a single Lotus 340R uses a single peice clear polycarbonate shell which comes on and off like an RC car body.

Which is one of the most ridiculous ideas in the world...car born for track days..if you crash you have to replace the whole shell..£8000

btw marcus if you want a sh*t load of work you could import a civic/accord perspex bonnet and cut it down to size.

They normally do perspex displays but you could give them a try..

I was thinking perspex for shows etc, as then the car could be left and the engine bay could be seen, but no thieving pikeys would be able to steal stuff!!!

um.......k

a lighter shell which would follow the cars philosophy, also the fact that its almost impact resistant and no more expensive to replace than the fibreglass labour intensive shells they come with.

Think before ye speak!

Almost impace resistant? Whats that mean..? lol

At some point most owners would go off the track, so its stupid that it costs that much. Mine was a rational point of view, as in not all people can afford to replace the whole shell every time they have an offy. They could of split up the car into four or five panels. All very well sticking to Lotus uncompromised philosophy but if customers dont want your cars cos of cost, they aint gonna be makin many cars to start with!

You know ploycarbonate..... it doesnt shatter....its just flexes. hence the inpact resistant. weather the rest of the car would survive is another matter.

If you were running a std car then you would have to replace a sheld load of panels PLUS the damaged chassis and suspension due to the open wheel design..........

so weather or not you have a fibreglass or pespex shell wont make the slightest diff.

And did i mention costs?

exige is nice but totally underpowered........

i really would have to add another 200bhp to that thing......a 1.8 is pathetic in that car, and the top speed....yawn!

Cant you get the VHPD upgrade though? I know you dont read EVO but they had an article about the Kseries could actually get more power, and reliably due to the fact tuners were using upgrades which were actually bad for the engine. You could always supercharge it.....in dreamworld again!

yea, but the K series wasnt designed to push that much power, its a tiny 1.8 and was designed for a 1.6 really........so a 250bhp Kseries would be crap in that heavy a car, the VHPD is only a diff head casting, rare too and costs about 1200 for the bare casting.......

we need to slop that common crank twin hyabusu motor in......14,000 2.6ltr V8 anyone! haha

only weighs about 70kg too!

Not sure Lotus would copy the kit car manufacturers somehow as cool as it would be! It will be interesting to see how they get on with the Toyota engines (if confirmed) i think its about time they produced something quick again though, really the Noble M12 should of been what Lotus made IMO

thats more like it! haha....

but still.....a german peice of sh*te in a british car, AND TURBOS! ergh..and weight! pah.....

still think the quaife solution is best.
