Ph-1 172 Questions

I am considering getting a Ph-1 172 but don't know much about them. Can anyone help with the following questions:

- Does it have ABS, I'm guessing it does
- Does it have ESP, if so can it be switched off as on my 182
- Are the brakes the same as my 182
- how will it handle/ ride like compared to my 182 with cup suspension
- What should I look out for when looking round one
- finally, does anyone own one that I could have a look round near Braintree (Essex) area?

It wont feel as planted as the 182, but as u say, change the springs and ur away

Usual stuff, cambelt done, regular servicing, worn steering wheel etc etc

- how will it handle/ ride like compared to my 182 with cup suspension - The whole car is more "darty" on turn in, it will feel a lot more raw and they have a better throttle setup amongst other things.
- What should I look out for when looking round one - Same as you would with your 182, look for whining rear bearings, knocking struts and engine mounts too.
- finally, does anyone own one that I could have a look round near Braintree (Essex) area? Nope, sorry

Yes, i did it on my old Ph1. You need to drill new fixing holes as the Ph2 fixing points are different. You will also need matching Ph2 rear arch liners.

I went from a 182 cup to a ph1 172 and im not regretting it. You really have to look around for a good one though.

Mine is certainly faster than my 182 due to it having some work done but it does not handle nearly as well as my cup did.

Im hoping a set of sportlines will sort that out.

I have had a few minor problems with mine but nothing major, just stuff thats worn out, so expect to be replacing parts every now and then.

Thanks for the responses. I'm a little worried about them not handling as well as I push mine quite hard and I'm not the smoothest of drivers.

I don't want to, but been thinking about it now for a month or so. I will really regret it, as much as when I sold my 5 GT Turbo, but needs must.

Selling it would free up a lot of money to put towards a house with the GF, and I'm hoping a Ph-1 will not feel 100 miles different so I'll still be able to enjoy driving. I'm just testing the water as such,

There was one for sale on in the Notely Garden Village area. Just off one of the roundabouts as you head to towards Queenborough Lane.

Silver as usual. Ciraca 3.5 K I believe. Though I've not seen it in a month or so, I guess it's sold by now.

Tell me about it. She's told me she doesn't want to be responcible for me selling it, it has to be my decision. But if she didn't want to buy a house I'd keep it till it died!

Being an Area Rep, do you know anyone in Essex or near by with a Ph-1 that would let me have a look over it

ph1's are as good as ph2's if not better keep it factory (looks)in my opinion they grow on you bit of a sl&g!

I px'd with Fuelslut, so I went from mk1 172 to 182cup.

all you need to know is you wont be dispointed going to a mk1 172.

Running Cup offsets (et38) makes a massive difference to the handling of a ph1 172. Well worth upgrading

trying to find someone in the Essex area with one still. I looked on AT but none of them were within a reasonable distance.

I guess heading along a few local meets might be a good start!

Sorry mines only a rep (1.6 RSi) however Wellas in in Colchester and hes got a genuine one.
