PH2 Key - advice please

Hello All,

Just after some advice please...

Ive just bought a 2005 Clio 182... which only came with 1 Key.

The key itself has been broken at some point and is literally held together with tape ! (no joke)

It still works perfectly fine with the central locking at the moment but obviously at some point its going to fail...

What options do I have ? Really want to avoid Renault if possible, as ive seen prices of £150 thrown around which is just crazy im sure youll agree

If possible id like to have 2 working keys, but even one working, good condition key would be an improvement on the situation

Ive seen full lock kits with keys and ECU/UCH listed on ebay, but am completely out of my depth there (and would probably end up paying a garage Renault prices to fit the kit anyway)

Any advice would be really helpful and appreciated

Personally i'd say that if you are prepared to spend £100 on a used ECU/UCH setup and swap it all over why not spend an extra £50 on a brand new key for your car? It shouldn't actually be that much unless you have a new key blade as a new RF key on the X65 is an "assembly" made of two parts/part numbers (1x blade/1x keyfob). I believe the blade is around £18+vat cut and a virgin fob is around £64+vat and then it simply needs assembling and coding.

These cars are starting to get on a bit now so just step up and hand a wedge over. Second hand stuff is okay if you've got a proper fault with an ECU which would cost more than the car is worth but not, IMO, for a replacement key.

Don't buy a key from eBay though as that will be a waste of money.

Ask them if they have any specials on as some dealerships do. I got two cards for my Laguna supplied and coded for £190. It's piece of mind having a new key than having used ones

Yeah I know what you mean mate, its the piece of mind that I need, but the empty wallet I could massively do without though. Its one of them... if i leave it for a while.. the key will just break at the worst possible moment
