Phase 1 16v idle problem





My valver has the most strange idle problem, ive had it checked on a diagnositic check and all sort of nonsense comes out from that. basically it revs up to 3k on its own as if you have just pressed the accelerator then it returns to normal. sometimes it just cuts out on you then other times its idle is too high at 2k to 3k? anybody had anything similar? or for that matter anybody know the cure, starting to really piss me off! cheers
 


when was the last time you checked the altinator?

Plus mines does it somtimes but only goes to like 1.5rpm not 3! Get it checked mate

potentiometer, or stuck iscv.

take it off and give the iscv a damn good clean with carb cleaner, als hold the revs and spray some into the throttle body!

renault should be able to adjust the potentiometer spot on for you!

Mines acting up similar but idling too low and cutting out, iv cleaned mine, changedthe iscv, speedo cable and still the same (although not as bad)

iv just bought a 2nd hand whole throttle body with potentiometer and iscv on it so fingers crossed should sort the problem out! ill let you know!
 


Adam, mine does the same as ures but doesnt quite cut out - certainly idles too low - whats an iscv so that i can clean mine?

its benind the throttle body, like a long gold coloured thing. 3 torque screws to remove it, and it has a black plug in the top. it will have 2 pipes coming out of it as well, one going into the inlet manifold.

take it off, then spray loads of carb cleaner in it, youll have to manually open and close it as well to make sure it got it all in there, then re-fit and see if thats has helped!
 


Check the connector going onto the iscv as well. My one had lost the metal clip holding it in place causing the throttle to stick at 5000rpm when it came loose....not the best when you want to slow down from 90 or so....!
 


My speedo cable broke and every time i went over a certain speed (dont what speed due to lack of speedo) it idled at 1600rpm, bloody thing. Replaced cable yesterday, along with my thermostat which had seized open, and every things fine now..........except now my side light warning light has failed. Well it can just stay not working.

Anyone been sodding around in the snow?
 


Daaaaaaan saff mate so havent had any yet - fingers crossed though - lets hope we all get snowed in tommora so that we sont have to go to work!

yeah cos ur speedo cable has a road speed sensor the the revs drop differently when ur moving to when ur stationary, i changed mine but still the same!

could also be coolant temp sensor, but that most likely if the revs are poor like mine!
 


cheers for that ill give that a bash but i have had most of the throttle body etc cleaned up. this is ideal sitting at work on this forum finding out about the motor and getting paid for it.

ill let you know if i can solve the problem but its a pain in the ass as you cant leave the engine on to play the ps2.

no iv bought a whole throttle body with all the bits on so that should help the problem, i didnt want to pay reno £30+ just to tell me whats up then have to fix it!

Mine is a bit lumpy yeah, but since i had the cams in its was running fine for months, bang on 900rpm, just a tad lumpy. Now its idling sometimes at 500rpm on the verge of stalling!
 


With all the parts youve replaced, Id say it is a faulty lambda senser. Mine sometimes runs spot on, sometimes runs like sh!te at 500rpm!

I got a genuine Renault/Bosch one from Nick at HillPower for just under £70.

Its going on tomorrow, hopefully should solve my problems. Ill let you know....
