Phase 1 172 engine into a 182

In the near future we (@Djw Dave) and I are gonna put my old engine into his 182.

We know the breather plate needs swapped over but is the cam cover the same on both making the plate interchangeable?

I'm thinking @bloke and @NorthloopCup will know off the top of their heads.

Thanks muchly

b****cks.

So ph2 172 top inlet and breather then maybe?

Or would a fbw throttle be ok on the ph1 inlet if we block up the icv hole?

You’d have to use the Ph1 inlet too I believe, should all be pretty straight forward then IIRC

edit: just seen your new post, I’m sure it’s not advised to mix and match covers, for reasons I can’t remember. Someone will be along to confirm.

Right, ph1 upper inlet is different to the ph2 182 upper inlet. The tank vent valve on the ph1 is fed into the breather plate, then back into the inlet. The 182 doesn’t.

Easiest way around it is mod the ph1 inlet to accept the fbw tb as the bolt pattern is different. Blank off the fuel tank vent valve on the breather cover. Done.

Don’t bother swapping cam covers over as they’re a machined match. I’ve done it before, but you need to be able to measure the clearance on the cam journals.
