phase 1 172, Mechanical or electrical output??

Ph1s have a speedo sensor into the back of the box where the speedo cable on a Mk1 would usually go - so a Mechanical Sensor that converts it into an electrical signal for the ECU/Dash

Cheers Jord.

Can this be accessed from the top or do I need to get it on a ramp? (This is my mk1 btw)

  330i. E30 Touring.
Speedo sensor- top/back of box. No need for a ramp, but will need the battery/airbox etc out.

You Legend!!!

Although that has fucked me over on my starter motor issue as I thought the heatshield for that was that... If that makes sense.

FFS!!! I wish I was a mechanic!!!

Jord, I'm proper confused now.

DO I need to plug the original speedo cable into that hole?? Theres already something in there.... I'm soooo confused.

Is this on your Mk1?

Remove the electric sensor thats in that hole (3 pin plug on the top of it) and put your original Mk1 cable into there...

Ahhh! I see! Right, the one thats currently in there, does that twist out or just pull out? Its proper stuck in there and I don't want to snap it off. (Big clumsy sausage fingers...)

Jord did I ever tell you I love you?

Just pull it upwards really hard, it will come out... Then push the speedo cable in quite firmly... Should make your Mk1 dash work fine.

We run the 172 sensor (that you are about to take out) but thats only because its required for 172 clocks...

And yes, you did. Lol.

Jord, that's the second time I've seen someone just tell someone to pull the sensor our, when I did it on my mkph1 1.2, it had to be twisted a bit before it was pulled out, like to unlock it, is this not the case on the 172 box?
