172 Phase 2 are seen as the softest version, hense why they brought out the cup. The cup shed 90kgs and is seen as the more focused version. Feel kenner, have stiffer springs etc

Right so the ph1 is a better track wesapon in standard guise than a ph2??

And is the only difference between a cup and a standard 172 the suspension and weight difference??

Cups also have no traction control and no abs, whereas a normal 172 does.

Apart from that the differences are it has no leather, and no xenons, if that bothers you.

The cup does not have any of the "luxuries" that the normal has. i.e. leather/alcantara interior, climate control, ESP (traction control), ABS, headlamp washers.

Yeh, the weight difference accounted for a few cosmetic changes, too. No leather/alcantara seats, pikey steering wheel but nicer alloys.

Noooo!!, no Xenons, no leather, no AC, no ABS. But best colour,(Mondial Blue) get the Turini Wheels as standard,(wider track) bigger boot spoiler, front bumper splitter

Best track weapon would be the Cup imo

Why? steering wheel is the same in a 172 Cup. Its the 182 cheap....... i mean Cup, that loses the RS Wheel.

  182 ff silver
There is no difference! if there is its tiny iv had a 172 ph1 ph2 172 cup and now a 182 all exactly the same in my opinion all drive the same and go the same!

Settled, ill stick with the 2s then as i think they look meaner!!

Ill have my first one stripped and caged soon after christmas and hopefully hired out before too long!!!

All the best people.:D

i know you've just decided but, in order of pref, i'd look for Cups/Ph1/Ph2 if i were in your position

the Cups are the lightest (marginally) but, perhaps most importantly, don't have any driver aids (other than PAS), or A/C - so less to maintain (not that you'd necessarily be bothered if the A/C packed up in a track car, although there may be a minor power advantage)

Ph1s are the next lightest and will be the cheapest of the three, followed by the Cup

just my take anyway

In all honesty i dont think it will make a lot of dufference once ive stripped it and caged it!!

Thanks for the input though guys!

The ph2 172 has slightly shorter gearing ratios to compensate for the added weight, it also has more weight to lose,

therefore in track guise (stripped) it's just as quick, if not quicker than the ph1.

the proverbial can o' worms is open

TBH it all depends on what you want to use it for ????

To hire out as a track car.

Oh and have a go myself when i get bored of the others:cool:

In all honesty i do not care which is faster or lighter, once it is stripped and caged its gonna go like a rocket anyway!!
