photo help?

I want to take a pic of a waterfall in town, but have the long shutter speed so the the water looks amazing.

But I tried it today and its letting in way too much light but it has the effect on the water i want.

How do I achieve this? or does it have to be dark for it to work?

I'm no expert but did you try playing with a smaller aperture and iso speed?

You've done best you can but afraid its just to light.

ND filters or waiting for the sun to go down are the only options...

What camera do you have? If you bump the aperture to f22 (or f32), basically as high as the f number will go, and also make sure the ISO stays at 50-100 (some cameras automatically bump this up). That will give you a fighting chance, but you will probably still need an overcast day or wait till dusk to get a good result without buying a filter to darken things.

I'm not sure what size filter the 15-55 needs (52mm maybe? Should say on the lens somewhere or inside of lens cap). They aren't that expensive, you can probably find a Hoya or Hama ND4 for about £10-15.

Worth pointing out that the number after the ND stipulates the strength (the 'darkness' in laymans terms), I've always found ND4 to be just about right for most things.
