Photography Advice :) Tips & Tricks

I have a Nikon D50...

First of all, I wanted to capture some pictures of lightening bolts!

A slow shutter speed was resulting in a blurred stroke of light from the sky (it was on a tripod).

A high shutter speed was not letting in enough light and even with the ISO on 1600 it was still very very dark.

Now..."bulb" setting, what is this? I've had a play around with most settings but not a clue!

I know supposedly it just keeps the shutter open for as long as i want but is this not just shutter priority??

Thanks

I'm also attending silverstone next month;

Am i best setting my camera and tripod on one spot - manually focusing it - then snapping happy when the F1 car is approaching??

All comments/'tips etc welcome!

Thanks all

I would not use the tripod for F1 will make panning a pain. Camera needs to be in the Autofocus mode that allows it to track the car, not sure what it is on A Nikon is Ai-Servo on Canon.

Choose shutter priority mode and choose 1/320 or less and change the ISO to get around F8 at whatever shutter speed your using.
