How do I get a picture like this?

TT.jpg

Ive got a fairly basic camera and a tri-pod, but I have no knowledge at all! :(

Im guessing this has been photoshopped too at some stage, some general pointers would be really appreciated!

Cheers

A long exposure would of blurred the whole car if it had been moved.

I'm guessing the trailing brakes were cut from another picture and merged onto that using photoshop.

Its called rear curtain sync.

Set a slow shutter speed to capture the light trails, tripod mount the camera, click shutter, get someone to drive car into frame, park it in frame at a pre-determined point, then just before the shutter closes, the camera will set off a burst of flash, hence car in lovely detail.

I'm sure Ukaskew will be along soon with an example of his fine art;)

As JMR has detailed, achievable without photoshopping using the above technique, takes a bit of practice though! I've had a little play but not come up with anything great yet, so no example ;)

Various examples here though...

As long as you have a camera capable of rear curtain sync it's easy to achieve the effect, it's just then a case of perfecting it!

I doubt mine has this rear curtain sync thingy, but I shall have a look.

Is it only going to be the sort of thing you're going to get on high end cameras?

Cheers for your help guys.

It appears on quite a few now so you may have it, it may be called second-curtain flash sync, same thing though.

.......and for todays lesson......:approve:

I used to be well into photography, technical sides and all that, but ditched the 35mmSLR and got a Fuji S9500 digital instead.

I'm dead pleased with it, but just dont use the camera much nowadays. When I have some time spare I'll try and replicate the picture for Revels106 with my 172. I know my camera has a flash function where the flash goes at the end of the exposure.

You could always try a multiple exposure. Take a pic of the light trails, then second exposure one of the car with flash. ?
